I know these have been done by a lot of different people so there isn't really anything earth shattering going on here but I thought I would post what I did anyway. Maybe something is done differently and it will help someone out and if not it will provide a hand full of pictures to look at.

I asked my wife for one of these for Christmas. Like the good little woman that she is, she made sure that there was one under the tree for me Christmas morning:bounce::bounce:.... I also asked for a new YZ250 MX bike but she didn't buy me that:(:rolleyes:...

Anyway, I spent a few hours staring at it Christmas day, took it apart on Boxing day and then worked my a$$ off the last two days to get it nearly complete. My mode of thinking here was to try and keep it as stock looking as possible through the conversion and add some metal parts as needed later on. I did order up some cheap crawler tires yesterday and had no intention of trying to use the stock tires but I wanted to see it move. Those who know me well, know that once I'm "feeling it" I have a hard time stopping for anything until it is finished. This is what happened here and if I wasn't short an actuator and had the right ratio gear motors in hand this thing would be complete! It is however, up and running and fully functional as is. When I get the parts I need I will clamp the motors into their tubes and everything will get painted to match the rest of the machine as needed.

Being a hoarder, I of course used some parts from my stash. For instance, the tubes that hold the motors are stainless steel pieces from old solar yard lights. They are very thin but also very strong. Using them allowed me to retain some of the plastic diff housing on either end. I also mounted the steering servo in the front and modified the stock Bruder "steering rams" to be used as the push/pull rods. I think doing this kept it looking unmodified in that area. I also spent about two hours yesterday machining a "fancy" bracket to hold the lift cylinders to the boom. It was a bit of a pain to get the positioning just right but I think it works good and there aren't too many extra holes from screwing up.

I used 3 Hobby King ESC's to run everything in order to keep the cost low. They seem to work fine and fit in quite nicely.

I modified the rear grill so that battery swaps go through the back instead of out the top. Once I got to this point I was supposed to stop and wait for the new tires to arrive in a couple of weeks...I couldn't help myself...

You definitely made quick work of this one Reg. Looks great so far. One question. Did you manage to maintain a rear axle pivot ? It looks like it's mounted solid?

Thanks, it went together much easier than I thought it would.

Haha! When my wife came home from work she was excited to see it finished. I showed her how it all worked and popped a wheelie. She asked if she could try and I started explaining how all the functions worked. She said "so I go backwards and then go forwards quickly to do a wheelie?" ....apparently she wasn't planning on loading dirt with it...haha!

1, 30mm and 2, 50mm will do the trick.

I think all f Regs speed is connected to his work bench , from first laying out his logging truck to numerous other projects I see his bench of choice is his tailgate . So since I don't have a garage big enough to hold my pick up truck ,I decided to bring my tailgate downstairs , I think this will improve my modelling standards . And as a side note since I will need my tailgate my bench will remain uncluttered . Mike

Yes the tailgate works great! It's the only space that isn't a foot deep in $h!t all the time! I never get too much stuff stacked on there because I may need to leave in a hurry for some reason. All of my benches are cluttered because I'm a hoarder.;)

I see broken Bruder parts in my future...lol

The easy part is done. Now I have to make the mounts. Once those are done I plan to add a few more details.

Well an aluminium bucket would be great if your selling them, also it would be a way of adding an attachment mechanism on, as I wish to have the ability to load a set of tynes to use as a fork loader for moving containers and pallets around on rough surfaces.

Thanks men! I made a little more progress on the buckets today. Here's a few pictures to show one mounted on the machine and a video will follow eventually of it in action. The buckets are bigger than the stock one. I widened them about 1/2" because it seems like most of the conversions end up with a wider wheel track. The are also a little deeper because of the curved front and have height added to keep dirt from going over the back. I still want to add more detail before I call them done but I think the are coming together nicely. They are also a good bit stronger than stock!

Hey Reg, by chance can you tell us what ratio of actuators you are using? I'd like to do the same type of conversion I'm just not sure what ratio I need to get for decent speed and power.

I'm using 210:1 on the boom and 100:1 on the bucket. Both are 6v.
