Hi

After getting my robot pooping machine up and running, broken it, fixed it, up and running again and dialed in, it's been pooping almost nonstop.
There has been many failed prints so far and I'm still learning. How this will end up I'm unsure, might need to design and print again from scratch.

But this is where I'm at, my first project in years, first in 1/14 scale and first building anything as complex like this. Although I'm designing few projects this is the one I'm farthest along with.

Why? After I got my truck License that was the truck I start working on and drove for about year and a half, a piece of **** but had so much character and thought me so much.
As for drive line I haven't decided anything yet but I'll probably end up ordering a simple kit of hercules hobbies or something similar.

There are a few reasons I don't expect this to be a quick build, time being one but money being the bigger one.
If I'm lucky I'll some sort of a chassis next year but until then I'm just using what I can get my hands on...

Well, I did managed to get my robot to poop a little bit more plastic and this is where I'm at.

Over 30 hours of printing just for the hood, original has a flip forward hood and I'm replicating that with brass hinges and magnets to keep in place.
A little design error regarding the magnets; not enough material above the magnets so it didn't print, I'll guess it will be just filler and paint over it...

The roof is still just a test piece needs to be modified a little bit, work in progress.

The driver is just a forklift driver I found on Thingiverse, don't know yet if I'll use it.

Can't do much more until I order more plastic (which takes at least 2 weeks to arrive) and more parts show up.

Thanks guys, even though it's starting to come together I'm always worried if I was a bit too ambitious since I've never attempted anything like this, but We'll see.

I don't want to design/print too much until I have the parts in my hand, need to have the "feel" for them.

Not much has happened here the last few months, life keeps getting in the way.

I wasn't quite sure about the strength of the cab, afraid it was too thin, so I did a little stress test.

The test involved giving it to my son(3)
And this was the result after just 3 minutes.

As I was expecting, too many week points. Also, mostly just too thin (0.5mm in some places)
Have been redesigning a lot but not been able to print anything yet

3D printing is a challenge to master! I've been at it on/off for a few years now, & I still struggle with it.

Challenging, yes. But rewarding.
I've only had my printer for a year and so far only run 4 rolls though it. My biggest problem on anything hobby related is availability, there is no one locally selling (unless it's really popular) so I need to order everything overseas with sky high shipping and customs tax...
Also, I can't print good quality until I do something with the aluminum bed, it's warped. :(

Thinking back, the biggest fail I did was designing too much before I got the printer. "I can design this now and then I'll just send to the printer when it arrives, it's easy"
Man, was I wrong... But did learn a lot from that mistake.

After months of not being able to produce any thing (family & finances) I did score a little bit of plastic.
Enough to print most of the parts I had to redesign.

This is the only plastic available here (polariod), quite expensive, about 50USD. So ordering from Denmark is still the best option.
The joy of living in the middle of nowhere...

Progress has been really slow and when I thought about posting an update the site crashed.
Thankfully it's back.

I redesigned and reprinted most of the cab, and also tried to make an axle.
Found some metal in the house and turned into the frame with temporary crossmember, the suspension is still a "work in progress"

Those new scania parts are looking good! Hopefully there's less sanding.

Trying to 3d print the waterbug is really hardcore! I totally would have wimped out and gone to look at Rastar or some of the other toys that were released when the car was.

Finding a toy and convert would be a lot easier, yes. But I'm obsessed with keeping things within the same scale. Also the main purpose of this, it's supposed to end up as a birthday/christmas present.

There will always be a bit sanding but seems like minimal, even less now after I changed to a 0,2mm nozzle.

Slow but some Progress.

Been trying out something new.
Ordered a few pull-start recoil springs to see if I could make a set of leaf springs.

Just a kitchen strainer cut to size, a black sharpie and a small frame to hold it in place.

The first version of the dumper bed. Printed in sections so it's easy to shorten/lengthen it if needed, hold together with 6x m4 rods.
It's a little crooked due to crappy printer bed but it kinda looks old, tired and used.

Was hoping to get to 50-55 degrees but I'm not sure if will even reach 45

Well.
The progress for the last few months has been slow with the build, but still some.
Did managed to draw and print fenders for the rear and a simple bumper.

Last week some tires arrived and of course I had to try them out.
Fit the wheel well but way too wide to use on the rear axle.

And with so many small parts everywhere and always ending on the floor I ended up on making a better storage system.
So much more space on the worktable now, and easily expandable, which will happen.

I did make an error regarding the rear axle/boogie system where the inner tires would not fit anymore.
So now I'm at a standstill, do I redesign it all over again or do I upgrade it to a 6x4 model?
Even though that means ordering more parts I'm leaning more towards 6x4 since it be more capable offroad...

Really starting to come together...
I agree with you order a couple more parts, maybe reprint something, before I would redesign the whole chassis....
