Air Conditioning my pete

Well my driver went on strike due to the Texas heat, complained about no ac in truck so have the ac tech working on installing some for him.

More pics later.

No new pics yet but i have a question, i haven't found any pics of these type on net yet and trying to do this from memory did these units on the cab have a fan motor in them?, or did they rely on just airflow, to keep the condenser coil cool?

Re: Air Conditioning my pete

They would of had to have a fan because the evaporator needs airflow to push the cold air out into the cab. Its a cool (no pun intended) idea! Your actually correct with the 359 style , by putting the evap on the roof. The trucks after the 359's had the AC under the dash.

Thanks on the info:D i did find some pics of 378's that have the ac pipeing running down the backside of the cab, but i don't think the 359's had this, trying for the look i remember which was an old school style (i thinks that the right wording)

Also when i was looking at the pics of what i did so far and looking at it on the cab i realized that it was too tall and didn't look right so i lowered some and is looking better now.

Thank you both for the help it's much appreciated.:D

Mike

Here is 2 new pics of it lowered some,

Hi Mike the A/C look better now it's lost some height, It took me two attempts to build mine but on the front I use brass mess and had two dividers in it and did a lot of googling and seeing how others did there's...
Are you going to run the plumbing down the back??
Dreamweave, SANDCRAFT TRANSPORT and others have made ac units it's just a matter of some searching and reading the build threads.

Cheers Tracy

Thanks everyone for the kind words and all the help on this, i am really enjoying building little things again i was working on the drop deck trying to fix my joint when the idea for the rain caps popped into my head, then while working on that the idea for the ac unit hit me. Whats bad is now i just had a thought of putting a bug shield on the hood, not sure about that yet.

Finished ac coil in hand:

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...c/S7301160.jpg

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...c/S7301162.jpg

This solid wire here will be my ac lines, gonna put heat shrink on it for wire to give it that insulated look,

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...c/S7301163.jpg

This little wire here i coiled up to make a wire protector so the electric wont rub on cab

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...c/S7301166.jpg

This wire i twisted will be my electric for the fan (fan wont run but just gotta have it)

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...c/S7301167.jpg

I all ready got my holes predrilled for ac lines and such and here is what it looks like so far gotta take off headache rack to do it will probally start that tomorrow

Hi Tracy, yep the ole girl is really happy with the ac so far,and i am too. It's been a fun build, today i will start running the plumbing for the unit and i am gonna have to figure out some kind of strap for the ac lines, was thinking of using some styrene to make the brackets with, cause it will be easier for me to bend and shape them.

More pics to come soon.

Mike
