Benz Actros

Its been awhile since I have posted or built. The other day I got the urge again. So I decided on a Benz from Hercules hobby to change things up. Went with the classic metallic silver. The build went well this weekend except that the plastruct would not bond the pieces together. Don't know if the glue is to old or Hercules hobbies uses a different kind of plastic. So here is what I got done. It's nice to see that the truck comes with aluminum wheels. Does it have the same Tamiya 3speed gearbox?

It's pretty much a tamiya knock off. The rearends are different but same bolt pattern. Kit came with full bearings. Didn't come with aluminum wheels I bought those.

Hi there,
Thanks for posting this...
Your truck looks awesome..
What do you think of its quality compared to tamiya's?

This company looks like totally copied trailers from tamiya and Carson.they look good and very cheap but I haven't tried them yet to check their quality.

Bill..

Thanks. It has its pros n cons. Instructions could use some work. The plastic I believe is abs. Nice detail and parts fit well. The cost is a lot less. I'm satisfied.

Got some aluminum parts on. A few more trim pieces. Saving up for a MFU and some LED add ons. http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/...psxk3ozts4.jpg http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/...psdbhtbphd.jpg http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/...pss21kx3pv.jpg http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/...pstxybg63x.jpg

Nice build. Finally there has come some competition for the Tamiya's line of trucks..Rumors say they will also come up with another Mercedes cab next year, the Arocs cab-forward especially for construction trucks, with a low roof.
It's quite 'boring' that Hercules has just copied as good as every detail, also the less good solutions, and not to a bigger extend been doing some 'thinking' themselves and come up with some design improvements...But hey..China)

Thanks. I'm glad that there are more aftermarket parts, trucks and trailers being produced. Yes a new design would of been nice. Maybe they were testing the waters. At least its a step in the right direction.

For those interested, on a Dutch forum someone is assembling one and taking pictures whilst doing it. Don't know if you need to register or not to see the pics.

According to him there are some improvements over the Tamiya version.

Here is the link. Guess you can run it through google translate for some rough translation.

The improvement was that it came with roller bearings, super singles for the front. They have a different design on the diffs, the shafts are inline instead of offset. They look more realistic but I think the Tamiya axles would hold up better. The gear mesh and fitment wasn't as well as the Tamiya axle. Guess time will tell. Its well worth the selling price. Gonna try out there trailer next.
