Newbie building a money pit King Hauler
 

Well I took the dive into 1/14 scale from 1/64. Just when I thought 1/64 scale was starting to get expensive. This truck has been eating all my funny money lately. After seeing the 1/14 scale KingHauler/Peterbilt conversions at Indy the last couple years, I knew I had to have one. So far I love it, love all the scratch building. It is modeled as a 2001 379 Peterbilt, 36" sleeper, 280" wheelbase. The trailer is being built as a 45' Benson flatbed. Hope you like.

Nice start! The spending is going to keep up pace for a while though, don't get disgusted, it will all be worth it one day.

Very nice start. It's a very expensive hobby when you first start since your lost of parts and wants are unlimited. Buy once you start to catch up to the lost of upgrades and the list starts getting shorter, you really feel much better and your truck will show your vast improvement.

i like the color on it, and that back window looks great.

i'm guessing this is where the spending getting stable and gonna slow down a bit later :)

awesome job.Love the paint job..spending the money on something you like and will use isn't a bad thing. As my husband says...you don't have to pay an insurance payment, routine maintenance, put gas in it like you would a ATV or buying different guns for the different prey...and you aren't sitting in a peeler bar paying top dollar for beer and entertainment...lol...

I know what you mean about the 1/64 being expensive, DCP has gone nuts recently. The truck looks sweet though, are you going to keep the stock rims on it?

Looks great! Nice work so far. The rear visor is sweet and I just may have to copy the chain rack on the trailer idea:D. I would never steal from someone but......copy? Ohhh yeah! Lol. Jk

Try not to think of the hobby as expensive... I had a friend who once started to give me some flak about how much I had invested in my trucks. I looked at him, his cigarette habit, and then did the math. From my first purchase of a Tamiya Ford Aeromax in 2001 to my Knight Hauler in 2006.

In the time I had put into purchasing my trucks, building my trucks, and getting the custom items to improve my trucks; He had smoked and turned to ash enough cigarettes, that our "equal investments" would have still left me with a budget of just a little over $2,000 to use for my trucks at that time.

I to was into dcp 1/64 trucks till this. Had over 230 dust collecters and now only about 10 of my favorites. Excellent start on your truck and i see alot of great ideas. cant waite to see more!!! These you can play with at least and not get laughed at as much!!

Great looking first truck. You will be amazed at how easy it will be to start adding little accessories here and there to the truck and before you know it........ Wow it doesn't even resemble a King anymore. Keep up the good work and can't wait to see it running.

Wow! Thanks for all the compliments. Got lots of questions, I'll try to answer them all. The rear visor was cut and bent from a sheet of stainless, and the window trimmed with small styrene square bent and glued on. Been really hard not to order some aluminum rims from IHBuilder. Those things are a must at some point. The color is gunmetal gray, my favorite. As far as DCP goes, I mostly got trucks to strip down and rebuild how I like them. I have enough "blank canvas" trucks to last a while now. Don't think I'll ever stop rebuilding DCP's. The money spent on this truck has slowed after the initial buy-in. Still lots of parts on the wish list. SnP turn-out stacks, IHBuilder rims, and I would love to have a 40' frameless dump built in the future. Been in love with MAC halfrounds for the last couple years. Will try to keep the updates coming. Thanks guys.
