It is a hook lift truck

I have a Tamiya Mercedes delivery truck on the way to me from Hong Kong
also got a set of Knight hauler frames and middle axle for a 6X4 truck
I am going to use the knight hauler frame rails for the trucks chassis and use the original frame to re jig the front end of the frame to suit the European truck wheel base and use the rear axle and the middle axle to make it a 6X4 truck chassis and either build the upper body as a rigid tipper or buy a hook lift system to make it a tipping hook lift truck, I intend to use the Mercedes cab and mount the gearbox as per delivery truck with it under the cab as far forwards as possible

parts so far
1 complete pass through driven axle
1 set of dual axle suspension
Carson steering rod
blue bird low profile servos for steering and gear changing

on order
the delivery truck kit
the c parts for the dual axle
MFU 01
short prop shaft to fit between the rear axles
paint for cab (it is going to be red)

to order
hook lift kit or a tipper body and hydraulics to suit the tipper
new prop shaft and centre mount if I have to buy two shorter prop shafts ( don't know the distance between the gearbox and front differential yet)

sound like a good plan! I have never seen those servos before they look cool!

here is a picture showing the size difference between a standard futaba servo and the low profile ones
I am using the low profile servos because I intend to get the gearbox and motor as far forwards as possible, A standard servo will not clear the motor but the low profile ones will,
also mounting them as if I was building the Knight hauler to reduce play in the steering, if I build the delivery truck as according to the manual there is a lot of slop in the steering and not in the USA truck set up

I've got one of those low profile servos, yet to use it to see how it performs.
A hook lift would be great, not many of those around. If your budget will stretch that far, can't imagine the parts being cheap!

Hey Brel, have you seen the Lego Technic's hook lift truck, for idea's? It's screw drive on the lift.

Looks good so far! I like the lo pro servo. I could have used those. What was the cost and where did you get it from?

I have the same servo, probably from the same seller. Not bad for the price and it appears to have metal gears too.

Waiting for Parcel Farce to deliver is always a painful experience, hope they don't slap on customs charges, I got stung the other day

Don't know about the UK, but for me in Ireland (I would have thought it would be the same) I don't get hit with customs on packages from Hong Kong, but I do on packages from the US over 75 USD in value. Hence why I am more likely to go the ebay / Hong Kong route.
Having said that, I ordered a flatbed trailer last November on ebay, forgot to check where it was shipping from. I assumed Hong Kong as 90% of the stuff is, I paid and then noticed that it was coming from Illinois. I panicked a bit, but so far - no custom bill! Maybe he marked down the value and put it has hobby/gift, didn't look.

BTW, love seeing all the parts spread out all over the floor. It's great fun until the boss gets home! Also really like the military Scania!

Very neat servo and steering setup, out of curiosity, whats the steering throw like?

Also, with regard to your prop/drive shaft, take a look at how Tamiya Cowboy makes his own custom length ones. They look great, true to scale and are a very strong and reliable setup. You could do same via a bearing carrier.

tese two picturs shoul answer you question on steerin threw
