Hi All

So after being a member of the forum for 4 years now i have final found a good local RC truck Club and have started to pursue my hobby actively.
Early this year my wife bought me a 3D printer for my birthday and this has helped inspire me to produce all kinds of items some of which you will see through this post.

So Parkinson haulage is a small company to date and the Fleet consists of a MAN Tractor and a flatbed trailer an RC converted Skid steer which is where this post will start.
It has plans to grow and in conjunction with monthly visits to an indoor RC truck running event at Ribble Valley Radio Control Truck Club there will be more to follow am sure.
Next conversion will me a Mercedes Sprinter for general yard and construction work.

So to start with hears a few photos of my Bruder conversion to RC video will follow later however I will need to set up a youtube channel so please be patient.

Comments guidance greatly appreciated.

Convesion of Bruder to RC with 3D printed parts to hold the motors.

With the RC skid steer operational additional l attachments were required.
So after some work in Fusion 360 and some printer time the skid steer now has the original Bucket , Forks, dozer blade and a spkie which i have not printed yet.

Hi all

So what happens when you have some forks you need something to load onyou your truck so some more work in Fusion 360 and we have the CAD for some Euro Pallets and 205 liter or 45 Gallon drums.

Hi All

So when you have a truck pallets and a loader what to you need ?
Racking to put the pallets on so back to the CAD for more design work.

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...allet+Rack.PNG

Followed by some printing and then you have

Hi All

So now at the company we have Fork lift / load some pallets rack and loads we need a flat bed to load them on too.
My Trailer was a box so q quick conversion was in order.

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...i/P1120395.JPG

Strip down required top box removed

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...105_091918.JPG

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...10-WA0011.JPEG

Deck boards are coffee stirrers and the cross beams are candy floss sticks thus making this a nice lo cost job.

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...110-WA0014.JPG

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...111-WA0001.JPG

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...111-WA0003.JPG

Some spray varnish will be used to protect the surface
https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...111-WA0005.JPG

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...111-WA0007.JPG

I needed a head board so a quick look through the scrap bin I found a suitable piece of steel quick cad sketch adn a print later and we have a temporary head board.

https://cdn.website-editor.net/62f9f...09-WA0004.JPEG

This has all been dome with out damaging the original box or mounts this it can be changes back into a box trailer by just removing the headboard and reinstalling the box.

Hi All

Trailer is ready load are available we are nearly ready for a running session at the truck club however how do we keep the loads on the truck bed.
Well after a bit of though and a look through the stock box som stainless steel bar was found and some mount printed to attach it under the trailer bed to provide attachment points. These are definitely a work in progress as i intend to revise and fit let side makers to them for MK2

This now means loads and equipment can be secured for trans port to the job site and delivery at the club.

After discussion with a friend he advised on a design for a load strap see below thanks Fred :)

How are you making your decals? I mean the Shell and BP stickers.

Re: Parkinson Heavy Haulage

Hi Stein

Hi Have used a dyesub printer i have a little Canon Selphey portable printer that has paper and wax for printing which is water proof then i use 3M double sided tape on the back.
It works out more expensive than an ink jet photo print however it is water proof if you do not need the water proof you could just use an inkjet and photo paper.

this is the link for a printer https://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-SELPH...M5E02PA9B3XFHE

this is link for paper and ink https://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-KP-10.../dp/B001BJKO3M

Just remember if you go down this route fit as many decals on the page as possible each time you print due to the way the wax and paper works you are not saving any costs buy not filling the page unlike with an inkjet you use less ink.

hope this is of help and thanks for your kind comment.

Hi

Yes its all great Fun thanks for your feedback
The printer is a great tool and a steeping stone to metal CNC work for me.
However the access to the Full Fusion 360 packet which is free to hobbyists is what makes it possible there are so many tutorials on line i had never used CAD 6 months ago and I have a lot to learn however if you can draw it a printer or other CNC machine should be able to help you make it within reason, which opens up endless possibility.

Hi All

The transport manager (me) has reported to the owner (me) that the engineer (me) needs to urgently provide more pallets for distribution of freight and construction items as at the last job (club meet) there was a short fall quotas were not reached.

With this in mind as you can see it all falls to me the printer is on over time producing more pallets.

They have also put a requisition in for the loading bay and office lighting as not being able to work at night is causing operation issues.
Thus me (the designer) general get it all done guy) will have to design and produce some lights soon.

Well that's 8 more ready for assembly and more in production.

I have often wondered if I would ever be able to pull off using a 3D printer to create accessories for this hobby with ease. While I'm sure it wouldn't be as easy as you make it look it sure makes a guy want to try it! Is the CAD program something that came with the printer? I fear being able to convert designs to files the printer can use.... GREAT work! Really interesting!

Hofabooz 12-20-2016 04:17 AM

Re: Parkinson Heavy Haulage

Hi Sandfarmer

The 3d printer did not come with any design software.
However there is a lot out there to chose form.
I started with 123 Design free and loads of great tutorials out there for it have a look on youtube etc.
I have now progressed to Fusion 360 alos free to Hobby user educators etc it starts with a 30 day trail then you can convert to a free model have a look on line.
This package is a fully blown system and has some great features such as the built in support for exporting files for 3d printing.
Again there are mnay turotails online and even free webinars form Autodesk who make the Fusion software.
One of the great features is that most items in the McMaster-Carr catalog have a 3d model that you can import and use within the Fusion product I have used this for nuts bolts etc great time saver.
In the future i hope to cent a CNC metal mill and the Fusion software supports this with a CAM section to set up the tool paths etc.

So thats my 2 cent's have a look around thre loads of information on the inter net and you dont have to pay lots of money for software.
Enjoy

Hi Stu

Thanks for your positive comments.
The Arduino Nano is there to process the command form the infrared remote control.
You can switch the left or right lights and the beacon on the building on or off independently.
Future expansion will be the remote operation of the door and possibly some sound effects and a display screen or clock.
the two light towers also operate form the same remote though of using Bluetooth or a spare radio set but that would have meant carrying a phone or transmitter around and the simple remote or even a tv remote could be used is small and has loads of buttons so win win.
I will think about producing the light towers I will just have to refine them a bit further first

Many thanks

Thanks for the explanation Mark, so is there an arduino in the light tower aswell?

I'm really getting into the arduino range of stuff, after seeing your post I ordered a starter kit, its awesome!
After a couple of hours of head scratching and watching tutorials I created a thermometer with lcd display, the possibilities are endless!

My plan now is to make a system to fit in my digger with a small oled display in the cab which shows volts, amps, temp & oil pressure then sends that info to my taranis as telemtry a bit like the brixl system only a fraction of the cost.

Running before I can walk I know and the coding is going to be a nightmare but we'll see....

Waiting for oled & volt, amp & pressure sensors to arrive.

Hi Stuart

You read my mind that is just the route I have thought about taking.
Yes there is an Arduino nano in each light tower a relay and a infa red receiver
We should compare plans sometime soon we may be of help to each other in this endeavor.
I too an new to Arduino and just finding my feet so to speak.
I dont have any hydraulic equipment yet however I plan to develop the same type of system for telemetry.

many thanks

Hi All

Stage one of the upgrades problem with the existing ramp.
Few of the plant items having issue with access need to be sorted.
