left over build (Cat 825C maybe )

As you all know I made some sheep foot wheels for Ben . I made extra set to make sure I had 1 good set till all the machine ops where completed just in case of the possible mishap ( murphy's law ) Well I have a good set of 4 left , 2 liembach axles and motors ,and a loader front that was too small for the 990 . So , why not make a compactor , right ?. Also taking a lil self time every week from now on to get some of these projects done  . The + side of this , I'm giving myself a ton of tig practice ,almost as good as Reg by now :D ( I think :o ).

after having a hard time getting in the loader with my big hands , cab and hood flip open for easier access .

Steve, looks great for a "left over build". I do enjoy the variety of equipment that folks build, and the quality of the work. Seems you put this thing together very quickly! Guess we'll need something besides rubber mulch in order to see it compact something. Great job!

Cool! You can probably weld better than me but have you mastered the angle grinding and filing yet?:p:rolleyes:

Love the new machine and I am also understanding the need to take time for your own projects....

Keep up the great work!

Reg , I learned to back off on the voltage (?) as I finish a bead and let it fill up and go back and blend in . I finally can see the puddle .

Yes , going 7 days a week starts to wear on ya , before you know winter will be gone :( and I'll be outside trying to finish the siding on the addition .

Re: left over build (Cat 825C )

Yeah too much amps was my first big mistake too. I went to a local guru and asked what I was doing wrong and he quickly pointed that out. Sometimes it seems like heating the object slowly does the trick and other times it needs a quick blast of heat. I have yet to master when to use each procedure... Practice does make us better though and so does determination. I know I will never be really good at it but I keep trying and get lucky every now and then.

Re: left over build (Cat 825C )

Dad always told me to watch the puddle to much heat and you can see a sink hole forming thats when you back off . I just wish I had the foot peddle and not the thumb dial . Every time I need to back off I dip the tungsten in :(

bigford :

" nice landfill wheels!!!"

thanks :) landfill wheels are triangles . these are standard soil compactor

Joe : thank you , I may be making some more someday for a pull behind ;) all the segments are the same .

Nice work Steve! That's some serious looking heavy metal sitting there. What are you using for a drivetrain?

Re: left over build (Cat 825C )

Sweet! Have you ran any juice through the morpower stuff yet? Are you running their pump in this too? I keep looking at their stuff but have been reluctant to pull the trigger on it. I want it for something that won't run a bunch of pressure but you know how that goes....

Keep the progress goin!

Re: left over build (Cat 825C )

Reg , I just bought the valves from them for this awhile back . The pump is a Micropump I got off ebay ( thread in the construction teck forum ) I modified it for the $* log truck but it was just to bulky to look right with the limited room I have on that truck . So it went here . I have to make cylinders and a PRV and need an esc for the pump and finish the blade then it'll be full operational . The quickest and relaxing build yet for me that didn't cost a bunch like my big Mack
