A few photos of the work in progress,
It started off here
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...d2/shortie.jpg

and sorta grew into this

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...ysdad2/006.jpg

and gained a push frame or front end guard, not quite sure what you guys call them,

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...dad2/005-1.jpg

and this is where we are now

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...ysdad2/014.jpg

Re: my oil field truck

looks great, are you basing it off a 1:1? my only observation is that the rear axles seem too close to the rear of the truck, at least based on the flat decks I see around here, looks great none the less!

uk trucker 02-15-2012 11:35 AM

Re: my oil field truck

Thanks for the observation, its not based on any particular real one.
I've only seen photos of them and the rear wheels seem very close to the end of the chassis, maybe I've over done it a bit! We don't get any 1:1 versions over here to measure. The bed could be extended in the fullness of time.

Going to give it a work out on Sunday, maybe a lot more will need changing after that!

It is looking great glad to see you get picks up on the board I think you are hitting the mark perfectly.

Civic on these oil field boom truck the rear axles are right at the rear so that way when they use the boom it does not pick the front off the ground so easy it gives them more lifting power..

The containers are two Bruder ones fastened together and put on a skid like those on CAMEX videos
Great fun! got to make gin poles work next.

Re: my oil field truck

looks good, have you got any video of it pulling the container onto the truck

Re: my oil field truck

Ah that makes sense about the axle placement, i hadn't considered that.

No Brel, no video as yet but expect Tamiya Monkey will take some at Clumber Park on Sunday. Not too bad a ride out from Staffordshire if you get bored!
I'm taking it to try out and grab the "longest turning circle" award!

Re: my oil field truck

are you going to put in a flip over fifth wheel and gin poles on the bed ?
i like the look of this oil field truck

uk trucker 02-16-2012 03:41 PM

Re: my oil field truck

Yes to the gin poles, if you look very carefully you can see them layed alongside the outer planks, yet to drill them for the pulley though.
The 5th wheel slots into the bed for now above the pivot for the rear bogie.

Truckmaker has given me an idea for a king pin rising up out of the bed, something to think about!

sorry i didn't look hard enough lol now i see both and the fifth wheel on the headache rack
the pop up pin will be good, easy to do with a little servo
now how will the poles be lifted lol i guess i watched that video to many times lol but i did like the step /chain locker on the rig-up bed, again easy to do with a tiny servo , but sitting here at the computer it is all easy ROFL

Re: my oil field truck

Nice container! Is there any weight to it? I can't wait to see a video of it hooked up to something that will lift the steer axle off the ground while it picks it up.

Smart racer,

Flat top fenders do look mean, any photos of your truck?

This link should take you to some youtube video of loading a container, the voice over is not me , I was too busy concentrating on the loading process!
