Truck steer type lift axle

I'd like to put a steer type lift axle forward of the tandems in my next build project.
How can I do this and clear the driveshaft?
I've currently got a Reefer trailer steer axle to work with...
but can use something else, if better>

i am tring the same axle to. removed diveshaft and pushed it and it work. i have russisloud air ride, have to mill frame mount so it sits higher on frame to get the right pitch for the axle to work. i have two tamiya red shocks to bring it back to center.will have to trim air bags some to clear shocks. have not tried the lift part yet, but i have some ideas. need to make a jig to hold axle in place with i cut it. then come up whit a hump that will hold lift servo and clear driveshaft.

Jim, you could use a front(steering) axle for this. The axle should clear the drive shaft.

Thanks for the info, guys!

While the trailer steer axle has enough caster on it to make it self-turning, like fuzzy says the axle AND probably the tierod needs to be cut out to clear the driveshaft. Don't know how cutting and reassembly will work, exactly.
fuzzy- can you keep me updated on how your setup works?

Here's a pic I found; anybody know the size of the tube used, and thickness of the arch?

Brian's idea of using a steer axle might work, if the axle has enough caster in it to self-turn. Got any pics of this setup Brian?

No pics Jim. I know that the 1:1 trucks use this set up. You could position the axle to its has caster in it. The truck I'm building now I had thought about doing this setup, but those steering lift axles aren't that common around these parts.
