snuck in the drop box and motor mount today :o Using a manual speed control (MSC) :p I did a speed test of course it's always dark till I get to take a vid :o:(
FWIW , plenty of room yet to put pump and valves ,etc.;) also , motor is from a 24v dewalt 2 spd. hammer/drill .

Re: 990 cat loader

Wow, that's a nice looking loader. You sure have some talent at building. Did you ever get your hydaulic pump going or are you building another one? Will you buy or make cylinders? I think you said on your Mack, another great project, that your cylinders did not work out. Did you ever think about just buying a longer air cylinder, cut it to length and then make new ends. That way you get a finished bore and rod assembly that you know will work. You would only need seals and bushing for the rod end.

Re: 990 cat loader

Rich , I had trouble on the tele cylinders for the mack only do to not enough time on them :( (rushing :o) what I have now acctually works better anyways . I'll be making these ( walk in the park ) I even found actual wiper seals that'll work for the size . I have a couple pumps from index to play around with . 2 have motors on them . the problem with these is the magnetic coupling which is no problem to change (again , lathe time  the mill always is ready for more work for some reason ) ) I still have a sickle set of gears like what the jung pump uses , that I need to make a housing for .

So you're going with a motor /trans combo?

What the diff ratio gonna be?

Joe , 3.3 :1 in the axles 2:1 in the drop box powered by 24v 2 speed dewalthammer/drill motor on 12V . I had an 18volt on it in the test vid . For me , I'm using what I have :o . I think It'll perform very well .:o

thanks guys I'm really pleased the way it's coming out considering I'm using scrapped material for it :o the axles are cut from stock for wrap around bumpers that was .125 " to short :( . the counter wieght is cut from a 1" plate we found on a job back in the early 90's left by pipeliners the drill motor is from a drill I thought I could use on job sites for instaling elc. conduit on concrete walls for elc. serv. without lugging the gen. around (big fail) . So instead of it sitting around collecting more dust , why not put it to real use . I still need to make up the spool carrier ( in steel ) that'll have to wait till I get done with alum. so I don't mix chips . I took a hit on 3 out of 4 55 gal drums full of chips because of it  .

Re: 990 cat loader

What sort of differential are you planning on using in this beaut Steve? I've been spending a lot of time on a design for a very small LSD for my loader build, but am thinking are they actually needed? With the weight these scale loaders end up, do they actually lift a wheel with open diff's? Sorry, just picking your brain here:o

Cheers

Glenn

" do they actually lift a wheel with open diff's " not sure what you mean here , Glen I'm using the hpi savage steel diffs out of a nitro truck . they seem to handle some abuse . only time will tell .

I took some time this weekend for myself :o to unwind to figure out what to do to solve a production issue on hubs  so I made some more parts for the axles . when running 2'nd op in the mill for the spool carrier on the same jig that I use for hubs , it still f'n off  any how it was a long night  but I managed to save the carriers with a pressed in brass sleeve . well enough BS :p:o I did take some so so pics :o

Steve That a stout looking set of axles. How many scoops will this machine take to load the Mack.

Re: 990 cat loader

Thanks Steve, yep, I'm using savage diff's too;) I'm trying to contain the conversion in a standard savage diff casing so I can retro fit at a later date.

Very nice looking axles!

Wow, Steve. The axles are incredible. Beautifully machined scale replicas. I drool everytime I see something like this. CNC is amazing.

I wonder where that picture is?

thanks Nate , CNC is cool but can cost you in the back pocket quick

yea there a big 1 Neil , I use to get loaded by a 992 with a spade nose in an old coal pit where they were crushing the lime stone over burden . 1 corner of the bucket 12ton for my lil 12' box . was something to see a tire higher then my cab

fixed my wheel jig :) thought I would never use this

10" face mill that came with the machine heavy as heck so you set it on the table and bring the spindle down to it
