1/3 size skidsteer

first ever post go easy on me
I say 1/3 size because hats off to all of you builing beautiful scale equipment
the time invested and thought is admired in every pic I look at in every thread
I have enjoyed rc my entire life
and always disliked lawn chores
20 years ago my first rc lawn mower wasn't pretty and hardly worked
15 years ago could mow picture in picture while watching the game
they never were too good looking but did the job
so set out to build something that looked like something else
last year i made a 1/4 size skidsteer with plow and lawn mower attachments
it worked very nice
my latest build for the upcoming season I went a little bigger and more
power per pound with faster movements
and i took picture and video along the way.. thanks to my pateint wife
I will post the pics i have and one video, can find many more videos on my channel but will not post all here.. you can watch if you choose.
so heres some specs
4 - pronto wheelchair motors and wheels..
1 high amp wheelchair controller
2- 31 amp gel cel batteries running 24 volt
actuators are 24 volt from wheelchairs
22" wide- 27" tall- 36 " long no bucket 280lbs
snow box 32" wide
Nice to say hello to all of you

Welcome to the forum, that's a nice build, sure could use it we got about that much snow today, that would definitely put the fun back into clearing snow!

That is great. It works very smooth, Never bogged down or even spun a tire. How do you control it? I saw that you are using the guts out of motorized wheelchairs, but how do you make those RC? Are you using a hobby radio system that has servos moving the wheel chair joystick, or do you have a more elaborate radio system.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: 1/3 size skidsteer

wish i knew how to link the two using signal only
but this has worked for years without problem
removed part of the spring in the joystick to make it easy on the servos
in the pic can see an arming servo too..

new tires in the mail today. not gray...nice black

anyone notice nitrogen springs where the hydraulics should be?
no need for the motors to lift dead weight every time
some day i will sleeze with larger plastic pipe and paint black
actuators are hidden behind.

Nice build! You can do some real work with that puppy! It would be great to plow my driveway from the comfort of the house looking out the window.

Use the image code link to post in the forum to make photos appear. I changed the code in your earlier posts. ;)

I quite enjoyed your vids of snow removal, an arduous task now made enjoyable.

What's the max amp draw of your wheel chair motors? Would this dual 60A motor controller be big enough? This would plug directly into your receiver.

Thanks for the details on the controls. Simple, yet reliable. Thats the way to do it.

Bill,

Way cool build!!!! I have been contemplating building a larger RC skid loader for a few years and havnt gotten around to it. What size would you recamend? You mentioned 1/4 and 1/3 scale that you have built? Which was more easy to put together and make/ find parts? Ie motors and tires making batteries fit? Fab work is not a problem its the rc and electrical that I im fuzzy on. Any more info or pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Caleb

well both were quite a challenge..
1/3 scale used 1 motor per wheel. very easy, no drivetrain like the smaller 1/4 scale( front wheels used #50 chain for drive )
also a bit more room in the larger one
parts were the same in both models, wheelchair parts, easy to find
rc is simple with picture above, actuators work from simple dpdt switches
more pics in my photo bucket
thanks for nice comment, here to help if I can
Bill

We got up over 40 today and the snow is melting. Water and slush everywhere. It got me to thinking.Have you had any problems with water in your electronics or motors? If im going to build something I want to use it in different types of weather conditions. Thanks again Caleb
