Hello to you all,

Firstly I'm amazed at the work you guys have done and hope that I could one day produce something to the same quality.

So to introduce myself I'm Scott, I'm a kiwi born and raised and always been right into all things trucking.

I've done fair bit of model kit building over the years but never branched out to R/C so any assistance you guys / gals can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Scott.

Build the kit 1st & run it, have some fun with it, then perhaps contemplate how'd you like to modify it to make it your own. I've seen too many ppl who try to hit a homerun with excessive detailing & never get it done, loose interest, give up. :)

I like Spektrum radios, they're very user friendly to program. There's cheaper china brand radios to be had, but their longevity is questionable, some ppl have good luck with no issues, but I never did. A DX8 8ch should be adequate to cover every function you could need or want in a trk/trl & even most construction equip too.

The advice is much appreciated, definitely going to start out slow and gather as much information as possible, and this certainly seems like the place to do it.

I've been eyeing up the Tamiya Scania R620 6x4 as my first venture into R/C.

Welcome. I chose the Freightliner Cascadia as my first build. I got a RadioLink 6 channel radio. I read good reviews, but I have yet to put it to use.

Welcome from another Kiwi, (or should I say "Chur bro"?)!

The Scania is the most popular Euro truck Tamiya makes, so good unit to start with as there is loads of aftermarket support for it.

Up to you which radio you go with, I have had the Futaba 4VWD's and then the 2.4 4VWD's which are good basic units that work well with Tamiya's MFC sound units should you choose to go that route.

I then bought a Spektrum DX6 (black newer version) which will not work with any of my trucks with a MFC, so I am going to sell it and buy a Taranis X9E soon. Different people have different experiences.

You will enjoy the build, these trucks are in the deeper end of RC building, but the manuals are amazing and easy to follow.

Buy a bearing kit before you build.

Decide if you want sounds/lights before you build.

Hi green kiwi , I am also new to rc semi rig Trucks ( Tamiya ) and played around with assembling 1/10 Tamiya on-road cars ( mini , merc coupe racer _TT-02 ,CC-01 Toyota Landcruiser , 4wd F201 Formula 1 cars , just to understand user manuals and the fun you get from assembling them
before I started to buy my 1/14 Tamiya rigs and trailers that I am really enjoying building and trying customizing on ( with my friend Allan - more experience than me ) So when others on this forum say that you just can't get by with 1 truck before you know it you have 3 trucks and some trailers and you are starting your own TRUCKING COMPANY --Pied Piper Transport , Tauranga , New Zealand
