Pistenbully 600 w/ Pc - Body 90% done!

Hi

I copied my 4x4scale thread here and now I'm going to add updates to here too!

I've always wanted to build something with tracks and then I found this machine. I thought I would do my PB a little bit different than usual one is and will make passenger cab on it. Maybe in the future snow blower in the front. My PB is in 1:10 scale.

Chassi almost done, needs only sprockets and springs for suspension.

I'm glad you like guys and thanks for the nice feedback!
Holidays are now over so I won't give so fast updates anymore, now I have to wait for summer to get everything done.

Next weekend I want to finish building cab's exterior and move on to interior.
I have to visit car painting store and get some more putty, epoxy and something called "rubber sealing", good stuff to finish the body :D
I have to find a good LED kit too, anyone has got something? I always push searching for a one to the future
Thanks for looking,

Thanks guys!

If you have snow in your area then buy it, it is very cool to plow snow when sitting in your house.
I try to add updates every week.

Some more work done (you can see a lighter for size comparison):

http://www.upload.ee/image/2007086/IMG_0614_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2007092/IMG_0615_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2007095/IMG_0616_1_.JPG

Head lights seem to be very big in the pictures, in real life they look smaller, don't know why it is so.
Now are the basic curves of the cab ready, a lot of sanding is waiting me
Next I'm going to start adding details: interior, mirrors, front emblem, rotating lights, muffler, glasses etc. Some of them will be laser cut and maybe even 3d printed.
I wanted to do a test drive in snow but found that I have screwed mounting bolts to one of the motors too deep inside and now it is making wierd noises. Have to find a guy who can repair it.

Thanks for looking!

JensR 01-24-2012 02:51 PM

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Looks great!

Sorry to hear about the motor problem.
I guess the screws are too long and reach into the gearbox?
I would hope that if you use a shorter screw, it would work and didn't do too much damage.
Or maybe I did not completely understand, and the problem is more serious?

Madda 01-24-2012 03:44 PM

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Yes, the problem is a little bit more serious. When I first mounted the motors, I didn't knew that the screws have to be quite short and screwed little bit longer screws in. Then I did some testing and found out that one of the motors cases is broken because of that. Then I repaired it myself but now it is still broken, have to find a better guy to handle this.
Another problem is that new motor is another 50 bucks and for me 3 weeks of waiting so buying new is the last option for me.

JensR 01-24-2012 04:24 PM

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Oh no! Best of luck you can get it fixed!

Another update to keep you informed:

http://www.upload.ee/image/2030342/IMG_0609_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2030345/IMG_0610_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2030348/IMG_0611_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2030354/IMG_0614_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2030358/IMG_0613_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2030363/IMG_0615_1_.JPG

So I took one of my motors apart and found out that this thin spacer was behind all that noise, without it everything runs flawlessly. I don't know why this motor doesn't like this spacer. And I didn't put it in a wrong place, checked it twice.

Next time I hope to finish interior and move on to passenger cab. I want to make ready rough edges on everything and then add all the details and do the sanding. I will also make new headlight housings because I don't like them at all!
I will another update in the evening, my lights will then arrive and I want to make some progress in my plow drawing.

Plow finally ready:

http://www.upload.ee/image/2040991/xx_zx.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2040994/K...empel_koos.JPG

Some of the details I will make myself when plow is "real". Scale size would be 540mm, mine is 538mm, pretty good.
Got my light kits:

http://www.upload.ee/image/2041001/IMG_0636_1_.JPG

22 lights total, in the weekend I will try to make all of the lights working ( even 4 beacons) and make a video.

Thanks for looking!

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

I am in awe of the magnitude of the project that you have undertaken! To me, this talent you have is nothing short of amazing....your focus and attention to detail is remarkable. I have been a life-long enthusiast of anything with wheels, tracks, and hydraulics. Add snow to the equation and you got me hooked. I've driven/operated a variety of stuff from over the road trucks to off-road loaders and excavators, but nothing captures my attention more than what your'e building. Keep up the good work, and please continue to post your progress.

Madda 02-06-2012 10:06 AM

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Effinay , WOW! It is always very nice to hear such comments! Attention to detail is not very remarkable, chassis could look more scale but to be honest, I didn't know a thing about lasers and CNC's and made all by hand and making more scale wold have been much difficult. I'll try to keep you updated!
If you want to watch more pictures of the build you can go to scale4x4rc.org and watch my thread there.

Another update:

Soldered all the LED's together, now there are 20 of them. I only soldered one beacon ready because it is easier to make them ready after the body is done (you can see it in the video).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfkifuDicOk (how to get it showing in the thread? In this forum it doesn't work?)

Pretty statisfied with the result.

So this is how much wires I've got already, I don't want to think how it will look when the servos etc cables will be included, very tight fit indeed.

http://www.upload.ee/image/2053005/IMG_0638.JPG

I started making the seats, they are the last things i will make for the interior, other parts will be milled. I didn't have time on Sunday to finish them so here are some shots ( you can see the new heavy duty putty i bought ) :

http://www.upload.ee/image/2053012/IMG_0641.JPG

Made new headlight housings, I didn't like the last ones. Lucky me that it turned out good this time because i had to make the front bumper again 4 times and I didn't want to repeat that :puke:

http://www.upload.ee/image/2053019/IMG_0642.JPG

Thanks for looking!

http://www.upload.ee/image/2071369/IMG_0655_1_.JPG

http://www.upload.ee/image/2071375/IMG_0656_1_.JPG

Now it's really taking shape, next time when i'm building I want to finish glueing the body panels and move on to sanding process.
On Tuesday I will go to a 3 week vacation so no updates until the March:cool:

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Hello my friends!

Back from my trip and this weekend I ended body building first stage - glueing pieces, now on to the second step - filling, sanding and painting. Let the pics talk:

http://www.upload.ee/image/2172516/2..._114104_1_.jpg

http://www.upload.ee/image/2172521/2..._114246_1_.jpg

http://www.upload.ee/image/2172546/2..._114332_1_.jpg

I made a little video, of course I started filming when the battery was already dead but you can still see something. I didn't fix the body to the frame.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v-0m...ature=youtu.be

In two weeks I will get the plow cut out - I can't wait to see how it looks like.

Does anyone know the RAL colour code of red Pistenbully's? I have to find it fast. Google wasn't helpful this time

Thank you for looking!

Hi!

This time I don't have really nothing to show but I received my plow parts on Thursday:

http://www.upload.ee/image/2240893/20120407_133800.jpg

http://www.upload.ee/image/2240908/20120407_133820.jpg

http://www.upload.ee/image/2240924/20120407_135848.jpg

http://www.upload.ee/image/2240927/20120407_140023.jpg

Some of the parts are details for the body but you will see them in the future.
Few parts need still machining and bending so I couldn't start the assembling.

I want to get the plow parts ready in two weeks, also the body should be painted by that time.

Thanks for looking!

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Update!

I painted the body, will repaint it again because I wasn't clear with the results.
Some pics to show:

http://www.upload.ee/image/2284414/20120421_180352.jpg

I also started assembling the plow, I'm making every part manually with angle grinder and dremel so it takes a lot of time to make all these parts.

Hi Madda, very nice model!. I had to take a look here after your question about cylinders in the G990-thread. I´m very impressed by what you have achieved so far. I can understand that you are interested in hydraulics, since you need some for the plow, don´t you?

Stefan

Madda 06-30-2012 10:36 AM

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Thanks Stefan! Yeah I'm interested in hydraulics but my problem is that I don't have lathe or mill to make smt, i'm saving money for a mill though. Other concern is that it's quite hard to make cylinders on a mill :s and I don't have resources for buying both since I'm only 17.

Rebekah_harper 07-01-2012 03:05 AM

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Hiya,

I'm very impressed with your build.

Hydraulics:

You could get some custom made by Damitz modellbau. At the moment that's what I'm doing. It the cost isnt that much more than standard unless standard is suitable.

I think it would. 89 euro for the largest cylinder 320 euro for brushless motor hydraulic pump the valve I can't remember but if you check out precision model distribution (PMD) it will give you an idea.

If you want really small ones (6mm largest diameter on the cylinder) then let me know and I will get the link for you.

Again, a very brilliant build, you are deffinately. A builder to watch for.

Madda 07-07-2012 12:14 PM

Re: Pistenbully 600 w/ passenger cab 1:10

Thanks Rebekah!

Yeah I have checked Damitz and other distributors. My idea is to build everything possible myself, then I can say that it is scratch built! I'm thinking of ordering pump from jung-fluid and then make other parts with mill. Probably they won't be the best at first try but I want to try it!

I will continue with the build in the winter because it's winter machine and I have more time then. Meanwhile I will to some warm-up runs so that the things don't get rusty:cool:

I hope you understand my point :p
