Remote to Radio conversion...

Hey guys

I need help from the electronic boffins out there. I have this Tamiya forklift that I built to load and unload pallets and various cargo from my semi trailer. But the wires are proving to be a bit more hassle that I really bargained for...

So I've been thinking of small ways to transform it from remote controlled to radio controlled. And one of the ways I was pondering on was making use of old servo PC boards as speed controls. My question is is there any reason this won't work? the motors in the forklift are all 3 volt, but they tolerate up to 6 volts without any problem. I know because I've had one on test for a few hours on 4 AA bateries (6.0 volts)

My plan is then to use a Hobbyking 4 channel 2.4 ghz radio and receiver and a 6.0 volt battery pack.

Will this work?

Electronic speed control, for each motor, somebody else can give you recommendations .
