stretched scania with wedico tanker project
scania: found the cab on ebay, built the chassis, decided to stretch it a bit, tanker: bought the tank on ebay, cut my own chassis rails using the box trailer frame as a guide, but added an inch or so, so i could slide the tank around to get the right look. still need 1 more cab to make the longline, and waiting on a bunch more parts.. but i think it looks good so far..

Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
i've been working on the tanker, got new rims and narrower axles to tuck the wheels under the fenders, made the front plate, and started toolboxes and valves

Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
Hi...
Nice job so far. As I can see you're familiar with styrene, so why don't so stretch the cab manually ? I made it for my Scania T580 without the need of a second one. >>> Click me softly <<< :) |
Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
great start on your build, like the length on th frame, gives it a nice swedish look to it.

Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
gismow, your cab came out great, i may give that a shot. i'm waiting on the high roof before i try and stretch anything, they guy that makes them is out and waiting for new stock.
roundabout: thanks, i was surprised to see so many stretched scanias and such when i was looking for pics of the blue griffin, i thought the roads were narrower so the trucks would be shorter. but i guess that's why they use single wheels on the trailers vs the american style dual wheels |

the super singels on the trailer i a weight thing, back in thelate 70' early 80' almost everyone changed from dually to single wheels on trailers and drawbar trailers, i quit driving 10 years ago, and back then you could only have at total weight of 40ton on a 5 axle truck/trailer and a total of 48ton on a 6 axle truck. the long wheelbase you see on the swedish trucks is also due to weight restrictions, I dont know a lot about the swedish weight regulations but I know the total weight is different between a 3 axle truck with a 3200mm wheelbase and a 3800mm wheelebase. |
Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
got some more work done... boxes made puttied, sanded, and waiting for paint, got the valves made and installed, made the front locking piece for the endcap, only thing left is rear bumper, piping underneath, and ladders, then dis-assembly and paint.
http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 see if you can pick out which tamiya parts are in there... lol http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 yes the guard moves.. the caps come off too, but didn't get pic http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 got some aluminum in the box... ok it's just alum duct sealing tape :D http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 arsh end with stock king bumper.. not happy with it.. http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 other side http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 the whole rig so far.. got the matching wheels on the scania http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 |

Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
very good, give the man a beer
but still 1 more part in there... screws don't count |
Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
ok, found a way to get another cab, buy a whole truck.. lol, i think i need to take a bit more off. i measured the tamiya wheel and scaled the real pic to match, then measured from the cab door to the end, and cut. but these 2 comparison pics don't seem to match real well

Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
cut about 3/4 inch off the cab, looks better now. i read that the builders added 51 inches to the original, so 1/14 of that is about 3.5 inches, and that's about where i'm at. i may have messed up using the blue tamiya cab, i thought it was pretty much just blue plastic, but it has a clear coat on it, so i sanded off as much as i could. especially where the glue will sit. i'll give it a gentle wash in brake fluid before bodywork.

Re: stretched scania with wedico tanker project
got the skirts made and fuel tanks installed, waiting on a new high top piece. i ordered 2 and 1 is thin white plastic, and the other is thicker yellowish plastic, so they don't quite line up. couple more little pieces and it might be ready for putty!
