Brushless gearheads? whats the advantage?
As the title reads, i see a lot of them in the fumotec stuff now but how much of an advantage do they really give over a brushed motor like the ones that come from mfa como?

Re: Brushless gearheads? whats the advantage?
The greatest advantage is big power in a much smaller package! These blue mini brushless motors, they're built to Fumotec's own specifications, I don't know the company doing it; the motor spins @ just over 10 000rpm, big planetary gearhead for just the right output rpm.... you literally can't stall them out!
My B4206 has red color brushless that are a little bigger than the blue ones (what Frank started with before getting the blue motors made), I had to do some filing on the ends of the outrunner bell housing to get them to fit within the axle. They are a little bit faster than the blue, which I like, but the blue motors fit with plenty of room in the dump trk axles. The wheel loader has a narrower axle, didn't measure, but probably 20 some mm |
Re: Brushless gearheads? whats the advantage?
thanks for the reply Joe, do you know the diameter of the brushless motor fumotec? Since I posted this I've have had one arrive from hobbyking, it's a 2830 1000kv so at 12volt it's spinning at around 12000rpm, only problem I really encountered when doing this was the pinion, any idea where I can get a 3.17mm pinion for the mfa planetary box?

Re: Brushless gearheads? whats the advantage?
The L & D is both 28mm, while the gearhead D is 32mm
MFA didn't supply a pinion with their gearbox? Or if you pulled a brushed motor from the box, use that pinion gear. My late American friend Mitch Mignano had gone twice to the April Dortmund exhibition in mid 2000's & Mitch told me of the various vendors at this show that specialise in motors & gears & gearheads, ect ,ect.... I've never seen a website that an individual like me on the other side of the globe could order from ... I know of Conrads & they have a lot of specialised parts & tools, but they don't ship outside Europe. I usually just tell Frank what I want & he does my European shopping for me & sends it out. :D |
