shackles how i do it

Shackel or clevis how to make easy by Nikeam @ scale rc 4x4

What you will need
A soldering gun
4/40 tap and die
Needle nose pliers
Side cutters
Solder
Some heavy gauge copper wire I use for this 0.0920
Some lighter copper wire 0.0390
Chunk of wood
Drill bits 0.0935 0.0855 ish
Vice or vice grips
Files
Drill or lathe
1. Cut a length of wire

2. Bend the wire in a loop
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...em_/pi%202.jpg
3. Then bend a hoop
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...m_/pic%203.jpg
4. Then bend another loop try to get it about the same size as the first loop
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...m_/pic%204.jpg.
5.Cut the loops away from the wire and squeeze the loop tight

6. Fill the 2 loops with solder (crappy pic)
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...m_/pic%206.jpg
7. Drill a whole 0.0855 in that area through both loops
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...m_/pic%207.jpg
8. Tap through both side 4/40
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...m_/pic%208.jpg
9. cut another piece of heavy wire and thread it 4/40 to a depth of 0.4640 or deeper
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...em_/pi%209.jpg
10. Drill a whole 0.0935 in chunk of wood
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._/pic%2010.png
11. Slide the threaded end into the hole
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._/pic%2011.jpg
12. Wrap the thin wire around the thick wire
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._/pic%2012.jpg
13. You end up with a coil of wire cut the coil into rings
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._/pic%2013.jpg
14. Slide the ring over the piece in the chunk of wood and solder it on
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._/pix%2014.jpg
15 remove the piece from the wood insert it in your drill and spin file it to smooth out the ring
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._/pic%2016.jpg
16. Place the non threaded end into a vice or vice grip and squish the end flat
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._/pic%2015.jpg
17. File the end relatively round
18. File the flat sides smooth
19. Drill a small hole in the flat side and you have a complete clevice or shackle if you wish paint it red

After you make a few you can experiment with sizes and shapes fine tune your design filing and polishing or let it tarnish to look worn have fun

Very cool. Simple is often the solution! Nicely done.
