Liebherr L550

Good morning folks,
as requested some pics of the prototype. As always still a long way to go...

The fenders are just borrowed from a bruder loader for the looks. They´ll be of course bematching the new design in the end.

Excellent - I'm glad you started this thread - I might have a few questions for you..

But the first request is... any possibility of seeing some pictures of the chassis without the body - if possible please.

Edit : I can see the rear halve of the chassis in one of the photos, but interested to see how and where you mounted the transmission etc.

Thanks
Elliot

That looks like a very nice build. More pictures please.

Looks awesome. Will the final version be built in brass?

Looks great Ulrich
How did you bond the arm for the bucket dump, it looks like the inside is alunimum amd the outsides are brass ?

Re: Liebherr L550

Hi folks.

@Elliot: I´ll try to make some pics if I find the time to go to the workshop this weekend.

@Monighan: Thanx

@SonoranWraith: Thanx. It´s gonna be a mix of materials. The frame and most stressed parts from brass for weight and durability. The swing from alloy due to the weight. The body will be mostly PS.

@Greg: There are four 2mm bolts around the bearing of the swing. They´re not visible. Hard to explain, I´ll make a pic.
Those four iron bolts will take most of the shearing between the outer sheets of brass and the massive alloy core.
Furthermore the sheets and the core are glued together with uhu endfest 300. It´s a special glue that you have to bake in the oven. The heat improves the strenght of the connection by 300% (I think...maybe even more...).

Thanks for the information
I have another question for you, what do you use for pressure switches that turn your hyd pumps on and off when you are not moving any function.

Thanks in advance

Re: Liebherr L550

Good morning.

@Greg: Here some more pics without the body. I hope you can see what you need. The gearbox itself is part of the frame. But it´s not a big deal. Just two gear wheels sets to get the heigt from the motor axis to the axle axis. The motor itself has it´s own reduction. As I wrote the loader only has one gear.

The oiltank U see is just for the looks so U can get its space. The final motor-pump-tank will be just like the one in my wheel exavator.

http://www.fmb-geiger.de/A904C_009.jpg

In the loader I will have an outrunner motor with a leimbach 450 pump and the same scrath built tank. With the self built tank I can get the most effciant oil volume adjusted to the body. The outrunner saves some milimeters of lenght.

The space for the batteries U can see some pics above. You can change it from the outside of the model.

In my big excavators there are outrunner motors on the pump, so you have to control the rpms with a regular cruise control. So you can choose the preassure in the system as you like or turn it off. I don´t use any special electronics. The same thing is with the normal motors. You just have to programm your rc that the motor only goes one way.

If there are any questions please ask.

Nice model, like your way of testing the design in wood(?) before doing the parts in brass. What program do you use for the drawings?

Re: Liebherr L550

Hi...

@Mog: Thanx. It´s still a very long way to go...

@Dan: The material is a kind of plastic. It´s called polystirene (...i think. Once aigain english is not my mother language :o )
The advantage is that you can mill with higher speed and the sheets itself are 1/10 of the price of brass. So it doesn´t hurt that much if you do a part over and over again. When you fix it with the right glue, it´s almost impossible to break the bond.

The pics ahead are from Nemetschek Allplan I use at work. My CNC Mill runs with megaNC http://www.4cam.de/index.php?meganc . It combines CAD and CAM.
