Bearings in 3-speed gear box
 

In the instructions for the Grand Hauler there is a note telling NOT to replace two bushings with bearings. Is this a definite no, no, or is it okay to replace with bearings? Here is a picture.

I've replaced them before without any issues. I've never had to glue them either.

I have put bearings in other trucks, and I thought it was something that might have changed. Thanks for your input.

Yeah I didn't understand the change either. But then again looking at my king manual it doesn't tell you to glue them in either. So my only thought is they are worried about people getting glue on a ball bearing causing it not to roll which would jam everything.

I am real careful with super glue. But if the bearings fit snug, I won't worry about gluing them in place.

If I remember the gear box internals correctly, the reason it's advised not to replace with ball bearings is that those bearings need to both slide and roll freely. Ball bearings are usually not very good at sliding. Glue prevents them from popping out of the plastic thing from the push/pull force.
I have a feeling I greased that instead of gluing in my current build. Thanks for the reminder to check.

I am building my first KH and just finished the trans. Installed bearings throughout just prior to reading this thread. I have 1 bearing not sliding well, and I agree with Wombii. I'm going to swap those 2 bearings for the Tamiya bronze bushings.

Ball bearings are an unnecessary upgrade & a waste of money, the oillite bushing - bearings are way better & last much longer, especially in the drive axles, ball bearings wear out, oillites won't.
