Bruder Truck-Mounted Flatbed
Had one of the Bruder lowboys collecting dust out in the garage and had given some thought to stretching it and updating with some rubber tires and new wheels but decided to go a different route instead...
The beginnings of a flatbed body is what I came up with thus far.... Oh, and I apologize for not having many pics of the first stages of this build with detailed pics of how I reinforced the center section, but rest assured she'll handle some decent weight on her back while still being on the light side with just plastic being used. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2189.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2185.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2188.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2192.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2193.jpg As you can see the truck on which I decided to conduct this "experiment" of a build isn't even finished yet itself....so of course you can see my priorities are in order, LOL.:D But I figure it's a fun project to get the mind warmed up for some more building here and there. More updates to come, thanks for stopping by. -Alex |
Re: Bruder Truck-Mounted Flatbed
Sorry to report no major progress lately, just a few odds and ends here and there.
Added some crossmembers on the underside to help distribute the load and reduce pressure points on the plastic sheets. Plus some makeshift brackets and a slightly modified King rear crossmember were put together to help hold this girl on the chassis... http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2229.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2227.jpg Started to work on covering up that mess of a splice I attempted with some misc. styrene sheet and other pieces that were needing a place to rest... http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2228.jpg And began playing around with some load ideas both for the fun of it and to see what kind of weight could be put on this thing seeing as it's held together with screws, glue, plastic-weld, and some hopes and dreams... http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2226.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/DSCF2230.jpg See you in another month with another update.(let's hope not anyway) Thanks for looking, -Alex |

Re: Bruder Truck-Mounted Flatbed
It looks good.
The only time you should be concerned about the underside, is if your trucks spends most of it's time on it's side, or belly up. Lol...That's my view on it. |

Yes, I have to apologize for such a long delay in a finish. But the weather here is starting to cool down a bit (good thing) and we are getting away from the humidity for a while. Who knows, painting and detailing may be just around the corner. -Alex |
Re: Bruder Truck-Mounted Flatbed
Looking good, glue screws, and plastic weld ! I'm building a dump trailer with it so should hold up !

Nah man, these 10 hour Saturdays are killing me, and during the week I'm just too **** burnt out to find the motivation for the RCs. There's always tomorrow though I spose. We'll see. -Alex |
