Re: chevy silverado 2500
Danggood start toa cool truck......Ive seen where guys take a servo and mount the wheels directly on - used in the robot learners areas as well...... has issues with duration of running and burning up the motors...
...ive also seen using carpet car chassis - not very durable for our heavy duty world but it works..... Waht are your thoughts?? expectations? |
Re: chevy silverado 2500
Thanks Izzy. I want to make it as durable as I can. I'm hoping to find a set of axles to use, and I've been toying with some ideas for frame rails. I've got a losi micro crawler that I think I can modify the axles and make them long enough. But I still don't know what I'm going to do about wheels and tires.

Re: chevy silverado 2500
Really cool idea firefighter! There aren't a lot of pickups here. I might just have to buy one too. If not to RC, then as a load. It's so realistic, and for $10!! Except for that roof!? What were they thinking? But still...$10.....:D

Re: chevy silverado 2500
Ken, I am using a Losi crawler as the base for my Ford Super Duty. It is the 1/18 mini crawler. It is 4x4 and the steering servo is mounted on the axle. I am going to try to get the frame together and get the suspension under it soon and you can see how I did mine, not that you have to do it the same, just some ideas.

Re: chevy silverado 2500
They make hex extenders if that would work for you. They are pretty slick and you could get the width you need.
http://pics.towerhobbies.com/imagel/i/lintc3730.jpg I think you get the idea. You could also make your own by using aluminum hex, aluminum tubing that is threaded on the inside and the drill out the hex to fit the tubing and screw it all together with a stud at one end of the tubing. Make sense? |
Re: chevy silverado 2500

Re: chevy silverado 2500
Is that wood? I would suggest using aluminum. I will post pics later of what I am doing for mine, it may work for you as well. I was going to make it like the Tamiya F350 and Tundra. The make some body mounts and call it good. I am going for simple and strong.
Here is a simple straight ladder style frame. http://www.towerhobbies.com/products...hassis_525.jpg If my ladder frame doesn't work, I thought about something like this. Just some food for thought. http://gcmachine.ca/images/4TEN008.jpg |
Re: chevy silverado 2500
Ya its some scrap plywood. I'm not planing on using it. I'm just using it to get an idea of what I want to do. I will probly go with aluminum.

Re: chevy silverado 2500
are you guys tearing apart your MRC's and using the axles, or buying them somewhere else seperately? I too have this truck, and have been searching for just the axles but can't seem to find a pair for under $90.

Re: chevy silverado 2500
Today it's way to easy to make 16th/14th scale pickups with all these micro crawler parts. Five years ago when I did my ertl f-150 I used servos and shes still running like a champ.
