After some scale dimensions for spread axle
Hi guys, if I were to make a spread axle trailer, how far should I space the axles, centre to centre? Thinking of building a trailer to match my truck and need to get the dimensions on paper.

Re: After some scale dimensions for spread axle
Out here in the West, they have to be 11 ft. apart, which would be 9.42 inches (or 9 1/2 in.) center to center.
VERY hard on the tires when turning sharp corners... |
Re: After some scale dimensions for spread axle
Thanks Jim, that helps a lot. Yes I imagine there's quite a lot of scrub going on with that kind of axle setup. Does anyone know if the spacing differs between states?

Re: After some scale dimensions for spread axle
Actually anywhere in the US the have to be a min. of 10'2" center axle to center axle. any closer than that and they are considered a tandem. That would work out to 8.7142" or just under 8-23/32 or 221mm.
The only real difference between states is some of the western states allow you to go 84,000# with a spread, that is providing you register the truck for that much. In all 48 states you are allowed to put 20,000# per axle (40,000# group) on a spread. |
