how to fit 6 tooth pinion gear
I'm going to order a 6 tooth pinion gear from rc4wd in a few minutes but wanted to know how to make it fit in my king hauler? the factory pinion almost makes the motor hit the transmission and i know a 6 tooth will hit causing the gears not to touch? can some post a picture for me or a link to where i can see how to install this properly? thank you

Re: how to fit 6 tooth pinion gear
I have six tooth pinion fitted to three of my rigs so far. I have no photos, but I'll explain as best as I can. Where the motor is mounted, this can be adjusted. You need to dremel or file, so the motor/ pinion can be lowered to mesh onto the large gear. Then you have to fit a spacer between the motor and the plate. It's a bit fidgety but worth it. Nice and slow, lots of torque. Ps: I still some testing to do.. So let us know how you get on.

Re: how to fit 6 tooth pinion gear
ok i have a small drill press so ican take care of the drilling part. but why do i need a spacer? and do i have to order a long 6 tooth pinion like this then
http://store.rc4wd.com/6-Tooth-32-Pi...ear_p_609.html or a normal one like this http://store.rc4wd.com/6-Tooth-32-Pi...ear_p_610.html |
Re: how to fit 6 tooth pinion gear
The short one, is what is required. The spacer allows the teeth to mesh when lowered. You can use the bronze bearings (small ones) or a number of the cardboard ones that comes with the motors, I made about six. I am almost sure there is a thread on the forum somewhere, by Tamiya cowboy, I got all the input i needed from him.
Ps: I had a few spacers made since. If your in the UK send me your addy, I'll send you one for free. |
