Diesel Demond's work ride
My western star with a load of flat bar stock just weighing over 44,000. Eaton fuller 10 speed with a Mercedes benz engine! Power is good but it seems like the truck could use more gears the way the rpm's sound! It also needs a bath in this picture!
http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...aeilek/007.jpg This is a load I delivered to Northern Minnesota that makes the openings for hopper bottoms. I don't know which manufacture of hopper bottoms. http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...aeilek/006.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...aeilek/005.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...aeilek/004.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...aeilek/003.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...aeilek/002.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...aeilek/001.jpg |
Re: Diesel Demond's work ride
Well those mercedes engines are junk! Truck is in shop with bad head gaskets! I knew this truck ran at to high of a rpm at 70 mph! The sister to this truck has had same problem twice and the dealer even said these engines were junk. alot of problems ! so my hunch was right about running to high of rpm! Looks like its gonna get fixed and i will be back in it! So long new MACK vision dream!!

Re: Diesel Demond's work ride
If your boss buy's you a Mack, Make sure it has the roadranger tranny and not that triple countershaft POS! Trust me on this one! 17 year's of frustration. Mine will get swapped out soon.

Re: Diesel Demond's work ride
Not sure why you would call the triple counter shaft junk, Dad bought a Mack new in 1979, 300, 5 speed, it could have used some lower gears but that truck was tough as nails. It was dragging a dump trailer all of it's life, the late Mack 7 speed would have been great in that truck.

Re: Diesel Demond's work ride
Hey Nathan, Shift quality in a Road Ranger is alot faster, which make's a big difference, when upshifting on hill's. I've had the 12speed and the older T2180 18speed, after demo'ing a new International a few year's ago, My Mind is made up, Road Ranger!
The triple countershaft arrangement is high enertia-I.E. it act's like a flywheel and doesn't want to spin down fast for shifting. I'm in a 12 wheel Dump. There are road's in my neck of the wood's, that I have to split every gear, or the engine fall's flat on it's face, but K-dub's pulling double bellie's with 9speed's shifted just fine-Yes I became friend's with them, and let them pass me on the hill. I can't jake my shift's, due to computer programming! 1997 vintage. The other problem is Dealer rebuild's cost more and idependent shop's hate working on them. Case in point My 1988 RD with 2 lift axles went in for tranny work, I was told to not ever bring it back to them again. It was a nightmare to work on. Yes I'm biased from the "School of hard Knock's" Tough as nail's doesn't count when it won't shift, that when abuse happen's. I've had Mack's for 17+ year's, not my favorite truck! But thank's to the new emissioned engine's that can't stay out of the shop, I'll just keep my beast! Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Diesel Demond's work ride
I understand what your saying on jake shifting with my truck it needs a computer adjustment cause that jake kicks on so fast and drops the rpms right now its annoying especially when your trying to speed shift to get a look at that honey and when i hit the splitter sometimes it goes in gear then i have to pull it back out cause it just revs like its in nutural and then i look like a dumb ***! I drive a KW also thats in are fleet with a CAT 3406 and eaton 13 speed and i can take my foot all the way off accellerater before i put it in gear with the jake on and still catch it! older truck less emissions and way easy to shift with jake! plus it sounds way better baaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! my jake impression lol!

If you don't have a Jake, shifting @11-1200 works very well too in low range. I've never heard the term triple countershaft, is that a reference to Fuller transmissions? |
