Knight Hauler

My dad and I went halvesies on this.

Quick story: Found it on Craigslist. Guy built it for his grandson but either lost interest or didn't have the time for it.

Tamiya Knight Hauler 1/14 Semi
MFU (lights and digitized sounds controlled from transmitter)
Box trailer
Motorized trailer legs
Custom trailer graphics
RTR with Futaba 7 ch. radio

Oh, did I mention the price? $350.

Got it home and discovered a bad transmitter battery. Rebuilt the pack with AA NiMH cells and it's good to go. The cab had been partially painted but other than that it was fully operational. Auto-hitch/unhitch, sounds, lights, 3-speed, all of it. Building would have been fun but here we have instant gratification and none of the assembly headaches.

It is full of awesome.

We then decided to "Americanize" the trailer by removing the Euro fenders, adding mudflaps, and adding a rear guard. I have yet to apply the DOT tape and add marker lights.

I also added fender mirrors.

Lucky mofo, I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist for Tamiya stuff since you told me about it.

Great work on it!

I'm starting to think VARCOR needs a semi sub-forum......

Yea, this was one heck of a find. These Semi's are something else, if more people had the opportunity to own/drive one, there would probably be quite a Virginia fan base. That's why I'm trying to sell my Globe, I think I want an Aeromax or King Hauler instead.

Thorsteenster 09-05-2010 11:55 PM

Re: Knight Hauler

If you want to convert the Globe to a Volvo, you can get all the cab parts for about $90.
The Globe looks good, bet you could sell the cab for that easy.

Re: Knight Hauler

I also installed an RC4WD 4:1 GRU. It's a little slow though, it'd be nice to have a fourth gear. I had to bore out the motor bearing hole and move the servos forward. Ball bearings were also installed.
