Hey guys. I'm fixing my mistake, and I can't get my hood to look right.:( I spilled a drop of wet paint on it then wiped it off. I left a little lip of sorts so I wiped off a bigger spot with nail polish remover to get rid of it. I repainted over the whole hood but you can still see the spot. Is there a quick fix? Can I just keep painting it until I can't see it anymore? Or do I have to strip the whole hood of paint and then spray it? Thanks!:D

You see an off color part or a ripple'ish in it? If it's a ripple you should be able to just smooth it, start lightly swith something like 400 grit and move up, 800, 1000, 1500 etc, until it's smooth.

If it's an off color, just reprime the spot, or the whole truck, and paint. You don't want too much paint as it'll start filling in details however, door handles, panel lines etc.

If you want to strip it though, yellow can Easy Off oven cleaner will make quick work of it.

If you have to sand the spot to smooth it out, make sure you wet sand it.

Uh... the only sandpaper I have is 100 grit. At least, I think that's what grit it is.:o It says P100 on the back, but it also says U330 or something on the back.

Dont use that!!!!! Get at least 400 grit, 600 would be better!

If you have an auto parts place, they should have a good selection of sand paper, Home Depot may also. Or an auto paint supply or paint shop may have some, you need so little they may even just give you some.

Be sure to use water when you sand it too. The finer grit paper will clog up fast if you don't. Just work slowly and carefully. You can do this in a sink, with the water running slowly, or just soak and re-soak the paper in a dish with water. Once you get the area smooth, you might want to lightly respray the same color over the trouble spot and be careful not to mess it up this time! :D Sometimes, if you have a fine enough grit paper (like 1500 to 2500 grit), you can polish the trouble spot smooth and then hit the whole body with a little clear coat to remove any trace of a mess up.

napa has wet dry sandpaper in grits from 80 to 2500 there is six half sheets in a package for 5 dollars and change if they don't have it in stock ask them to order it
if you are not in the USA your local auto parts store will have the same thing

oh on this type of plastic don't use anything less than 400 or it will leave scratches that you will see when you paint
i sand to 1500 then use a primer filler very lightly and resand
the same thing i do on 1 to 1 cars
and like Espeefan says use water

I am surprised you guys are using 400, I rarely use that on1.1 Oops, when I was a sprayer:D
