John Deere 650 Dozer
 

I am really interested in purchasing one of the Ertl John Deere 650 dozers from the precision construction series.

I have never seen one in person, but they look fantastic in the pictures on the web. I understand the tracks are very weak on these, and that is a definate downside. Does anyone have any experience with these dozers in person? Are they worth the money? Would there be any remote possibility of converting one to RC?

Thoughts and experiences please.

yes the tracks are very weak . I'm in the design stage of an undercarriage for member here . It's not going to be easy you need to rebuild the entire bottom . there's a guy who did 1 in germany ? and that is exactly what he did .

If you have time, would you post a couple of pictures of the tracks on this thread for me to see.

What about cutting the bottom side of the treads off flat and then attaching them to a roller chain like others use for the tracked equipment?

They are very weak/brittle, I doubt that would even work.

Like the other 2 stated , the tracks are worthless for an RC conversion

What if you were to.... Just kidding, Sounds like it would be a lost cause. That is a shame because it is a great looking dozer. I am sure if it was a more feasible conversion It would have been done many times over like the Bruders. Thanks for the info. I may get one just to look at anyway.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but.

Do you guys think on that link of the guy with the brass pads and chain, did he machine the individual links and pads and tap the hole in the treads?

Looks neat, wish we knew more...

Wow, that's a very nice RC conversion in the works. The links look like machined brass to me. The pads and grousers look soldered. Kind of gives me some ideas, actually.

Very impressive work. Have you completed the dozer, if so do you have a build thread you would share a link for us to check it out. I would love to see more.

Funny thing this popped up today. My excavating contractor just dropped off a 650J this morning to cut grade for the parking lot on my project site.

Welcome aboard. Fabulous work. Like it has been said, feel free to start a build link. I have one in progress but only have the blade operating currently. The undercarriage is a giant hold up.
