Hello from Boonville!

Hi, my name is Rob, and I live in Boonville, IN.

I'm a retired Alcoa electrical engineer and have had many hobbies over the years. My main experience with RC goes back to 2009 when I got into scale helicopters. It didn't take me too much time to figure out they were just automatic revenue generators for the parts suppliers. I'm currently in the process of a body off restoration of a 1973 corvette.

I went to the Toy Trucking show in Indy last August looking for Tonka truck parts, and saw one of the conference centers filled with RC trucks. I was unaware of these 1/14 scale trucks, and had never seen anything like it before. I'm not even sure if I felt the hook enter my mouth!

In a nutshell, I'm here to learn more about this hobby, and possibly buy a used truck.

Hello Rob,

Welcome to the forum.

I totally understand you not feeling the hook being set. And I didn't even go to one of the many shows around the USA for these wonders.

I have been contiplating on selling my build. It is a bone stock King Hauler. I have added lights and gotten a sound board. I can not get the sound board to work. Look around on the different threads here and you will see some amazing work being done.

The good folks on here are eager to help you in any way they can with technical info and parts if necessary. The more I looked the more I realized that "the sky is the limit" , right after what my wallet will allow.

Have fun here and don't be afraid to post up some pics when you do get one and show us what you are doing to it.

Later,

Rodger

Welcome to the forum Rob. Although truck and equipment models can be just as expensive as (or more) then heli models they crash a whole lot less ;)

Dave, it's encouraging to see there's someone in the area who is into this hobby. Are there others in the area? Is there a place to get together and drive?

I've spent a lot of time out at the RC airport off of I-64 and Millersburg Rd

Rodger,

I see you're from somewhere north of Chattanooga. Both of my daughters lived in that area. One was in Athens, the other in Decatur. both have moved back to California, but we had some great times in Tennessee.

We might have to talk about your rig sometime.

This seems to be a universal theme, no matter what the hobby is!

Not that I am aware of. The Lhs in the area aren't that familiar with the truck and construction side of it. This forum has a wealth of info. This area seems to be more into the electric/nitro buggies and trucks. If you want we can get together sometime and I can show you what I got

Rob, welcome to the forum. I haven't yet met Dave at Evansville but perhaps we can all get together sometime. I live near English, so about an hour from downtown Evansville. I'm new to RC but have found a very welcoming and sharing group on this site and got to meet several at Indy this year. I'll send a PM with phone info.

Ken,

I can say this forum has the most welcoming feel of any I've been on over the years! I'm really looking forward to meeting or chatting with others.

Maybe we can uncover some more local "truck junkies" in my area.

I've heard of English but didn't know where it was until today. Turns out we've been very close to it on our trips to French Lick.

I've sent you a PM with my contact info.

Thank you! I've been to Toronto twice for some technical training, and really enjoyed my time there. Everything but the traffic!
