Re: fun day at work
Ahh yes, looks like a John Deere 648? I use to run one years ago when I worked on exploration drill rigs. Personally, I hated John Deere then and now that I work for Cat , of course I still hate them now.
I'm sure you had fun Keith, probably didn't take ya long to get the feel back :) Mario |

Re: fun day at work
Challenge accepted! And I'm throwing rice in this food-fight.:lol: Like has been said, have to be faithful to the pay source and Komatsu is mine. Grew up with IH construction stuff since my Dad was a field tech in the 50's & 60's and sales afterward until he retired. When IH went under, dealership picked up Komatsu. So fuzzy-worms and green-goblins have been the other guys for a long time! :bounce:

Re: fun day at work
I think every manufacturer has created a dud at some point or another, and at the same time they have their heroes - the machines that are known to take a full day's work, year after year, without demanding much more then the usual maintenance. As new machines get more advanced with electronic everything, the old mechanical machines start to look more and more reliable.

Re: fun day at work
I like them all and always have. I just happen to worj here

Re: fun day at work
You're right, Nathan. Every manufacturer has duds and winners, and with the technical advancements over the last 20 years, the competitive playing field is much more level, though much higher, too. I like to see what new machines or systems everyone has, and how they approach such things as the Tier 4 engines - all similar but different. I, too, like to see the old stuff. Guess that's why I have my '67 Barracuda - manual transmission, manual steering, and manual disc brakes - simple and easy to work on.

Re: fun day at work
I'm hoping I can find a copy of a video we made out in the bush with a JD 648 against a CAT 535B skidder. When the Deere couldn't haul the grapple load of wood up the hill he dropped it, the cat grabbed the load and pulled it up the hill the rest of the way no problem!
I sent some emails out to the people I hope still have a copy. That will be my last pie I will need to throw :D;) Oh, and my apologies Keith for hijacking your fun day at work thread.:o;) Mario |
