Travel boxes
I forget who it was or which forum it was on but someone created a foam box for their rigs for when they travel. I have 3 travel "footlockers' that I bought at Bed Bath and beyond which work great for a stock rig. But my new one is coming Nov 21 and is too big for the box :-(
So now I'm trying to make sure the new rig has protection for road trips. If anyone can point me in the direction of who made them it would be great. I'd build one myself but with this being the 3rd move in 2 years having a woodshop is out of the question. Searching the net - the interior size of the box requires a custom build or over $600 or $800.00 for the box. |
Re: Travel boxes
Aaron , you don't need a wood shop or elaborate tools . Most guys use the pink or blue board or foil backed insulation board and duct tape . for tools : a good knife or hand saw and a straight edge .

Re: Travel boxes
Rogue - that is exactly what I was looking for. I wonder if it will support 22 lbs of weight or if I should probably frame it with wood too. Maybe I'll fiberglass it.

Re: Travel boxes
Steve - If I can do the Pink Insulation and it supports the weight I've got those tools. But if I need to build with wood - I'm screwed as somewhere in a storage unit is all of my stuff since I moved into a townhouse while looking to buy.

Re: Travel boxes
Aaron , heres what I did and didn't pay a dime for them :D scrap lumber out of the dumpster when houses where being built  I don't think your trucks will be as heavy as mine especially my rotator :D so the foam will be fine .

Re: Travel boxes
Paul mentioned his 32 lbs of hay hauler fits just fine so I think it will be fine. I just have to find the dang foam. The King, and two smaller Scania's have a home in travel boxes that just need foamed.....Home Depot is on tomorrow's trip

Re: Travel boxes
I am a cabinet maker by trade and will be building a couple of boxes for my trucks when I have them built. I would be happy to make them for other people also. I plan on using Baltic Birch plywood with finger joints and a hinged lid and carrying handles. I will post some pictures when I am done.

Re: Travel boxes
I made some of the foam boxes using the 3m glue...with some cross braces and heavy card board for the outside cover...they make great truck/trailer transporters
