Marion 182M Stripping Shovel

On my profile page I have created an album with some of the build pictures that I took while building this model if anyone is interested. It is a 1/30-th semi-scale model of a machine that was built around 1964.

Tom,

Thanks for the pictures! Did you do a build thread during construction?

Can you tell me more about casting the track pads? I wonder if I could use lead and if the heavy weight property would be any advantage for a crawler undercarriage on a dozer?

Jim

What do you mean? Do you want me to send a copy of the pictures to you? I have 104 pictures of the build thread.

Hi jim-I did do a build thread on the "garden trucking" site. The pictures were lost when they shut down. Casting the pads were easy but making the master part was the hard part. It took about 15 different set-ups and-2- weeks to make the master part (I work slow). I knew I could never mill out al those pads and make them accurate and I wasn't going to spend a year milling tracks. Lead might work but it is really soft and I think the pins would work loose over time (just my opinion). The epoxy works fine for a shovel because they do not use the tracks that much. On a dozer probably not. So the problem with making tracks goes on. I can tell you a lot about casting some parts from epoxy if you want. Just let me know.
