Re: 1:12 scratch trailer(s) for the Purple Nurple

Thanks! I was gonna say "It's my first trailer", because there's stuff I'd do differently the next time around ... until I counted and realized it's my fourth trailer =))

But it's my first SEMI...

Re: 1:12 scratch trailer(s) for the Purple Nurple

Thanks, and I think part of why I didn't bother thinking it thru is that I have a shelf (actually cabinet top) in mind, which is like ten or twelve feet long. Already has the HEMMT on it, mind you,...

Re: 1:12 scratch trailer(s) for the Purple Nurple

Huh. Shows you how much attention I pay to trailers -- and my wife complains because I snap my head looking at semis when I'm driving =))

OTOH, in this case that might be a good thing, other than...

Re: Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

Also occurs to me that doing 1:12 allows me to fudge using parts from both 1:14 and 1:10. Gives me a little more leeway in what Chinesium parts I can use/repurpose.

Re: 1:12 scratch trailer(s) for the Purple Nurple

And of course we gotta have lights. Dang near all my projects have lights, lots of 'em. That rear bumper, like the one on the Frobe, has translucent filament insets with LED's behind.

In this case...

1:12 scratch trailer(s) for the Purple Nurple

Not a lot of words on this one, just a flatbed like so many pre-made ones (Tamiya etc), but scratch because I'm cheap and stubborn (ie making things myself and to my own scale and spec.)

The tow...

Re: Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

Good catch. To be specific, I dig Frank Herbert proper. However, should I ever meet David Lynch I will murder him on the spot. I actually think I woulda enjoyed Jodorowsky's interpretation, and the...

Re: Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

Mmm, you ask a good Q. This was made with a lot of things left over in the cabinet that didn't get used for previous builds. Then there's a gearbox on the end of that, what's described as "Axial 1:10...

Re: Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

Thanks for the good words. As with any of my projects, there's always stuff I coulda differently or better, and there's always somebody else here who's done one far more amazing. This does what I...

So that's how it sits as of now.

Yeesh that is one ugly fireplug of a man.

Next up is trailers, because what good is a semi if you...

Re: Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

Top of the cab gets lights in multiple pieces

The orange then glues on in front. Horns are actually genuine Tamiya and mostly look...

Re: Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

In the past I've used a dual-extruder printer, which allows two colors, but they're a pain to keep the extruders aligned. Lately been using a Bambu printer, which only has one the one extruder, but...

Re: Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

The drivetrain is pretty conventional using off-the-shelf components. Front axle is your basic Tamiya type passive, and yes, that means I'm mixing ~1:14 manufactured and ~1:12 printed parts, but I...

Purple Nurple: ~1:12 Frobeliner cabover scratch build

Freightliner, Globe Liner, take your pick. Like the name, the build is a mish-mash of things: drivetrain is off-the-shelf, frame is Home Depot, body and accessories are 3D printed. In the 1:1 world...

Re: 1/10 Oshkosh M1070 A0 (3D Printed/Scratchbuilt)

Coupla random thoughts. One, what axles are you using, if you don't mind me asking? I've used Integy stuff, which isn't bad, if you don't mind dealing with their rather minimalist idea of customer...

Re: 1/10 Oshkosh M1070 A0 (3D Printed/Scratchbuilt)

Yep, as Frizzen pointed out, tracked vehicles are manageable if you mix the channels -- my FlySky FSi6 did it easy enough.

As for the M1000, you either do a mechanical scaling so the front axles...

Re: 1/10 Oshkosh M1070 A0 (3D Printed/Scratchbuilt)

Oh. My. Gog. That is some serious work.

That truck vaguely reminds me of something ... hmm, what could it be? =))

Re: 1:10ish 3D printed DOT "Construction Ahead" sign display

Ooh. I'm nerdy enough that I'm gonna do that ... for complicated reasons, I once spent an afternoon reading the state vehicle code as relating to whether doors are required on vehicles. Short answer...

I, err, was going for "roll your own tires" because tires roll. I have no idea to what else you might reefer, err, refer  Dave's not here, man. =))

Yeah, it gets frustrating,...

Re: Tires for conversions

Oh snap! At first I thought you were gonna suggest flexible filaments, which can be a royal pain, at least IME. And the detail left a lot to be desired. :(

But this, wow. Commonly available stuff,...

Re: Tires for conversions

I hear you on the street tread. I had a devil of a time finding one for my Fierito, which, err, I don't have a thread for here. Ended up using a Tamiya tire from their robot/education line, which is...

Re: Tires for conversions

Ooh, good options! I'd seen some stuff on the Lego tires but they seemed mostly car-ish, and I've only seen some of those WPL ones. The others may be real handy for some projects (rubbing hands...

Re: LINN Model DD-15 "HafTrak" Dump (1/14)

I'm still trying to wrap (pun intended) my head around the suspension. You're doing amazing work! I'm half-way (again, pun intended) doing a WWII half-track, and they pose a unique set of challenges....

Re: Bruder Piggyback Forklift

Holy carp, okay, that's insane then that you got all that in there!

My "1:10ish" is about twice the size of the Bruder. I sized it so that it would lift onto the bed of my trailers, and some...
