Re: Another machining question
That model is like one of the ones we had in tech school and it would not work on non conductive parts. IF all you do is steels, aluminum, brass etc then it should work fine, but plastics you have to...

Re: Another machining question
The ball with lights systems do work (or pin or whatever style they have now), but they should be double checked for accuracy with an indicator every once in awhile. Read up on which ever one you...

Re: Looking for a new camera
I've got a Nikon Coolpix P80, IIRC it fits your price range. I've had good luck with it and it does pretty decent up close in macro mode as well as 18x zoom far away stuff.

Re: Thread tap suggestion
I don't do much with dies, but as Izzy said just page though the MSC catalog pages and read the descriptions of the different styles and coatings.

Re: Thread tap suggestion
I have rescued several taps plugged with aluminum with Red devil lye and water. Takes some time but it won't hurt the tap at all.

Re: broken bits
The tap guide works great with a cordless drill. Just have to watch out for taps that have shanks larger than the thread portion. I should really build a smaller thinner tap guide for the little taps.

Re: Thread tap suggestion
Alot to do with the coating, some of the taps for stainless and other exotics have special grinds to the flutes that make them cut easier or break chips etc.
For aluminum I pretty much now only...

Re: Thread tap suggestion
Greenfields are good taps. I prefer OSG myself, have a OSG 1/4-20 cut type, helix flute that has over 3,000 holes in steel and still cuts a nice clean thread. The best taps are the ones that are...

Re: broken bits
Another option is a tapping block. holes sized to just allow taps to slip through, faces are perpendicular to the holes thus holding the taps straight.
This was one of the many tools I had to...

Re: broken bits
Being a carbide bit in a steel part I would go with heating the part up. The steel should expand alot more than the carbide, and hopefully then a good whack upside down on a benchtop will send the...

Re: broken bits
If you had a broken tap or drill in an aluminum part (or brass or other non steel) you can use Alum, aluminum sulfate (dissolved in water) to dissolve the steel and not the aluminum, it's slow going....

Re: broken bits
Drill bits should be fairly easy to get out (taps are a biotch). Like was said try and poke at it with something or possibly even turn the piece upside down and bang it against the bench to get it to...
