I used 7x19 3/64'' type 304 rope for my boom hoist on the 9W. As you can see here it wraps OK but there's constant tension on it. There is also about 20+ feet wrapped up too so I can lower my boom....

Definitely sounds like a dry bushing. I don't like oilite bushings because they gum up.Especially in the dusty environment you work in. A good solid bronze bushing may work better. Better yet, can...

If you want we could build you a small canal to run your barge back and forth. Just line a small ditch with plastic or rubber roofing. I don't have any rubber on hand though.
