Re: Dragline Crawler Build
Looks like that undercarriage will fit real nice underneath the house, Jim. On those rollers, you might want to bevel the edges that will run between the lugs on the track. That way the roller won't...

Re: Dragline Crawler Build
Those pads look great, Jim! Keep it up. You're getting me thinking about finishing out the back half of my 40' container so I can set up a my stuff and get working. Be a great winter project.

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus Erie 25B
Have a look on the second page at post #27. You can see the fixture I made to hold them so I could mill and drill both sides. I milled the flats on all the parts first and then drilled the holes so I...

Re: Dragline Crawler Build
Looks like you've got it figured out, Jim. I'm planning on using brass for the pads and soldering the lugs on. I like your drilling fixture.

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus Erie 25B
I used stainless rod that was somewhat polished to have a smooth shaft that wouldn't corrode in our humid winter climate and brass because I hadn't turned it much and wanted to play with it. I think...

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus Erie 25B
Jim, the main reason I did it this way is because I have a mill and I wanted to play with it:D. Another reason is because it's easier to 3D model one part instead of having to draw and assemble...

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus Erie 25B
Wrong thread, Jim, but that's ok. The tagline is led out through the front of the machine down near the boom pins and then up to a sheave so nothing really changes with the boom angle. I had to...

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
I'll be watching, too. You can see my 25B build here http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=3705
I haven't done anything on it for a few years now because I've moved and don't have...

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus-Monighan Walking Dragline
That's gonna be cool! Two questions: what is the third lever on the far left for? Propel? And is the doohickey on the back of the left console a compass? I can see where a compass could be handy to...

Watch, this this is going to be more aluminum than plastic when it's all over. Great work!

Re: Dragline Rebuild
I used one of those doohickeys that slow down servo speeds. It gives the same slow acceleration/deceleration with a continuous rotation servo and it tamed my crane down nicely for much more scale...

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus Erie 25B
Thanks guys. I hate to say it but yes it has stalled, but not due to lack of interest. I moved a couple years ago and no longer have a place for my tools so they are in storage. I keep thinking about...

Re: Ny-Lint Mobile Dragline Conversion
One trick is to make a collet that can be chucked in the three jaw. Make it out of whatever round stock or pipe you have. Turn a bore just a thou or so bigger than your sheaves with a shoulder inside...

Re: Conveyer Build
I would divide it in thirds to more closely replicate the convex shape if you're cutting a straight angle. But if it's easy to disassemble the conveyor and remount the rollers in the lathe you could...

Re: Conveyer Build
I would turn the compound slide to the angle I want and use it to do the cutting and lock the carriage. Then if I want it more rounded I'd change the angle again or use a file. Or turn them between...

Re: Wire Rope For Dragline/Crane Build
It might be a little small for your scale, but I like braided fishing line. It's stiffer than string and doesn't stretch much but it still bends easy and you can get it in dark colors. I've been...

Re: Conveyer Build
One trick to improve tracking is to make the end rollers slightly crowned or fatter in the middle. That's how the old belt-driven farm equipment and line shaft equipment in old machine shops were...

Re: 1:50 Dragline
Bucket looks good, Jim. I wouldn't worry about an opening stop, the length of the closing line will control that. After you get your sheaves and reeving figured out, you may find you need to add...

Re: 1:50 Dragline
That's looking real good, Jim, especially with the spinning gear. If you don't like the way the bucket hangs when dumped you can also play with the length of the drag chains. It looks like they may...

Re: 1:50 Dragline
That's great Jim! Ya done good. Certainly sunk the barge down a little. Now you just need another crane with a clam on the other end of the canal to unload it with.
