ed, the mill has its own controller or computer, the computer I use is my desktop that was a cheep home computer, nothing special. I use it for the design and cam generation only. copy to a usb...

Basically you just want a very little amount of play. If they are tight it will cause premature wear and excessive motor load. Too loose and premature wear quicker. A piece of paper cut close to same...
