I have never built one of these, but if it were me I would start by trying to install the guts from a grill lighter into the stacks. The hard part would be getting it to operate remotely.

They sell a version of Durafix at Harbor Freight as well. I think it is called something different, but it is the same stuff. Works great, but as was mentioned above Cleanliness is the key.

A trick I learned a while back is to cover the area of grass with a few layers of news paper then dampen it with water so it will stay put while you are putting soil, gravel, or your cold patch down....
