Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Your speed and quality are both absolutely amazing!
What ball heads are you using?
I wasn't impressed with the metal heads I found (either not enough articulation or the ball would pop out too...

Re: Cat 777D Mining Truck
I have used Tamiya shoulder bolts for their kingpins with some success.
Their thread is M4 and about 5mm long - maybe not enough for you?
If interested, check parts# Tamiya 50100 and 84175.

Re: ADT Project
Hi Richard!
That's a big sandbox! Would love to have one that size to play in =)
But I agree, for that size, a slow but torquey motor is maybe not such a bad idea.
And as I said, you could...

So, I did a bit of research now ;)
First I found: I couldn't find a "Cat 350D" ADT, but there is a John Deere 350D....

Re: ADT Project
No, these are too small for Richard's large&heavy ADT.
Richard, you may well be right and you have 10% extra speed with 13.2V :)
As you already have the motors, I would suggest to just bolt/tie...

Re: ADT Project
Great work, Richard!
35rpm sounds maybe a bit on the slow side? OTOH, it'll have pulling power to no end! :D

Re: Liebherr LTM 1030-2
Power is proportional to speed times force.
So, for a given power: If it is fast, then it is weak.
I'm a bit worried that you indeed might have the 1000rpm motors, in which case you won't be...

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Ah yes, that makes sense. Hydraulic will be beneficial there.
Are you going for a rotary feedthrough for the blade tilt and shift?
I use a spindle drive - it works very nicely and I get a lot...

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
That looks great!
Is the outward connection of the side shift is not outwards enough, it looks like you have only relatively little movement to the right?
In the original, the brackets sit much...

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
I really like how you did the blade.
I had massive problems getting mine done. I tried to bend it into shape with a vice and wood blocks :-/
I thought about using a tube, but I am not sure I...

No worries ;)
Yes, once in sand at the beach and twice in compost.
Works very well, but controlling it is a real challenge.
Must get myself a youtube account, uploads to flickr are rather...

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
It's a grader, not a scraper ;)
Thanks for your concerns.
The speed is very slow, already before the worm drive, so heat is not an issue.
The white gear is high quality PA. Sadly, the red worm...

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
The gearbox to which the gearmotor is attached is a worm drive, which cannot be back-driven, so the circle will stay in position.
For the full-scale machines a powerful circle rotation is a major...

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
I had exactly that motor in my 1:14 grader circle rotation, connected to a 1:60 worm reduction and found it too weak. Swapped it for a Maxon motor I had lying around. This works well.
Not sure...

So you make "only" the front axle steering?
Sorry to repeat myself, but I am slightly concerned about the motor being billed as "1000rpm". That sounds quite high and I would have...

Nice!
How did you get the spline into the rims?
I see some hot glue, but can't see how you did it.
