Chucks are expenive. Use shims.

I see your Cascadil transmission has helical cut gears. Are they quiter than the spur (straight cut) gears Tamiya uses in their other trucks? Spur gears always make a lot of noise.

When I tap threads I use a cutting fluid called "tap magic" It is available from USC Industrial Supply Co. I comes in a 4OZ can for $4.62. Their part # is 06492920.

You could use a lathe to tap...

I think you could use truck axles and springs as most of the RV manufactures used a truck frame. The smaller ones had the enging in the front and the bigger ones had the engine in the rear....

What is the size of aluminum You use when you scratch build frame rails?

My guess is 3/4 high with 5/16 flange and 1/16 thick.
