Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck

Oops! My bad. I guess I've been away from it too long. Looking at my drawings I see I made provision for a center bearing. :o

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck

Cool! I'm planning to do the same thing on my 25B when I get back to it. I have a shaper I plan to use to cut the gear teeth- after I get it running, that is. How will you cut the teeth?

I don't...

Re: Demag TC 500 truck crane in scale 1/24

When I did my lattice boom on my quick-and-dirty build I drove nails into a 2x4 in a zig-zag pattern and bent the rod around them. Worked for what it was but I think your method is better :D

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus-Monighan Walking Dragline

Looking good! The rust is irritating but it's good motivation, ain't it?

Re: Bucyrus Erie 40H Excavator 1:14

Looks sharp! I've never been able to decide when drilling smaller holes in a part like that if it should be done before or after milling. If before, it's a deep hole and more opportunity for the bit...

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck

Coming along nicely. I'm digging the B-E house. Maybe this will give you a little inspiration for soldering it from brass which is what I did before I had a mill. No build pictures but hopefully you...

Re: Fuchs 712SS Scrap Loader [1:14]

Oh yeah, the swing bearing will be fine. We were talking about the small ball bearings in the boom for the cylinder ram ends to pivot on. At least from here they look like ball bearings.

Did you...

Re: Fuchs 712SS Scrap Loader [1:14]

The build is looking good! Always interesting for me to see older European equipment.

I think Tessen is saying the balls in the ball bearings could crush a little and not turn smooth anymore if...

Re: Volvo A40F

If you can handle those curved surfaces like that you're ready to tackle a boat next!

Re: Ny-Lint Mobile Dragline Conversion

Wow, those are some nice track pads! I think you will want to make the sides of the rollers and idler thicker so they don't wear down as fast. Maybe about twice as thick. At least that would be a...

Re: Drive Tumbler Questions

Yep. And I think the bottom rollers should be spaced different than the spacing of the lugs so the track can't slip around them. That way at least one or two rollers and lugs will always be engaged....

Re: PC1800 Front Shovel (1/12)

I think the speed is about right. I'm enjoying this build.

Re: Demag TC 500 truck crane in scale 1/24

That looks like it should handle a pretty good load. Those U-joints are beautiful! Did you use ball bearings or bushings?

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus-Monighan Walking Dragline

I love watching a master in action. It's even better when he hasn't done something in a while and does it like he did it yesterday.

Re: Crawler Track Build - American HC230

I'm sure the tumbler would work but I think your cross bars should be bigger and the lugs on the pads smaller if required. What connects the pads to one another? Welcome to the forum and I'm always...

Re: Dragline Crawler Build

I was kinda mesmerized watching those tracks roll over the blocks and hose. I think the chain is pretty realistic. Great job, Jim.

Re: Dragline Crawler Build

That's great, Jim! But I don't think that driver was very happy with the way you treated his truck:D It walks just like the Link Belt LS-52 I've been around a little. Tracks snap, pop and squeak just...

Re: Dragline Crawler Build

How about this for tensioner screws, Jim?
https://www.microfasteners.com/home.php?cat=576

With a hex head screw you could make a wrench to reach in from the side and avoid drilling holes in those...

Re: Dragline Crawler Build

Wow, those tracks look great! Are you going to put any rollers on top of the side frames to hold the track sag up?
