Re: Unit Cable Hoe

That's called the jack boom. The boom hoist holds it from flopping forward and the weight of the boom/stick keeps it from flopping backward. The boom hoist has about a four-part line. Then when...

Re: Excavator/crane radio setup?

Sounds like a good idea to me. I've been racking my brain on this one for a while, too. I was thinking the easiest/cheapest way might be to just get another 2 channel radio for the undercarriage but...

Re: 1/16 'ish metal tracks for crane?

I would guess the tracks on that Unit are around 20" wide, so ideally you want them around 1 1/4". I hope to see it come together. I'd like to build a tracked crane but I haven't got the tracks...

Re: Cat 777D Mining Truck

I downloaded Alibre for a free 30-day trial period and after that it switched over to a stripped-down version. I can't print out drawings now, but it's still fun to play with and when the day comes...

Re: Barge-Mounted Clamshell Crane

The power tagline on a clamshell is also used for the dipper trip when the machine is set up as a shovel. It usually runs off the end of one of the drum shafts and has a clutch that is set to drag a...

Re: Barge-Mounted Clamshell Crane

Thanks, Lil Giants. What lorenzo said. And to keep the bucket from spinning and twisting up the hoisting lines. If you have a power operated tagline you can even pull the bucket in to dig closer or...

Re: Cat 777D Mining Truck

My first reaction was "it's way to short!" but when the box and cab/hood is on it'll be just right I imagine. I like the suspension setup. I don't know about your part of the country, but around here...

Re: Clamshell bucket

Those crane are fabulous! I love the friction setup on the 4600. Been dreaming about doing something like that, but it's a long ways off. Is the whole machine mechanically driven? I poked around your...

Re: Barge-Mounted Clamshell Crane

If my math is correct, the servos are theoretically capable of lifting 23 lbs. The drums are about 3/4" in diameter and the servos are supposed to be good for 139 oz-in. I divided 139 by the radius...

Re: 1/16 Bucyrus-Monighan Walking Dragline

Wow, just beautiful! And I was grumbling because I took a couple weeks of here-and-there dinking around on my simple little boom. I've watched your videos but seeing how it goes together here gives...
