Think it's time to get serious. I don't have any experience in CNC so it'll be manual machines for now. Time to commence the search for a "Toolroom" lathe and a J Head Bridgeport.

Lathes I'm...

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Moving right along. Edge welding is easy to screw up, looks like I've got the machine setup correct!

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Show me a good reference photo and I'd be glad to. Here in cornland, there's not a need for such large equipment. Suppose I could go up to Moline and take some photos (if they even have them there)

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Re: qctp for our hobby lathes and bigger

I finally bolted the A2Z CNC QCTP onto the Taig the other night. I haven't looked at what could be causing it, but the surface finish and precision was horrible. I know I had the tool height set...

Re: My new Cat 769D Dump

I ended up with the model. It was a good start for sure but we had to get this thing dumping on it's own! Big thanks to Travis & Izzy for all their hard work on the screwdrive. They really are...

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Got the stick pin all finished up. Not wild about the look of the socketcap but it'll do for now. Special thanks to Lynn (tc1cat) for all the tips he's given me to help me along in my machining...

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

I'm tired of the model looking like it's made of plastic instead of metal. Just look how shiny that boom arm is! I guess that's the idea behind my weathering. If you wanna call it fake or...

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

I disagree. I could cake this thing in dirt, never clean it, and it still won't look like a full-scale machine. The body is made of fiberglass, that won't rust. Even if you "leave it be" you gotta...

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Bah, no offense to Joe, but even his doesn't look the full-scale part when it's uncleaned. It certainly helps, but I'd like to get really detailed with the weathering.

- Take out the worm gear swing drive and replace with Joe's option
- Redo the cab interior. Was sent to me as the 1:12.......blah

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Not saying my welds are amazing but if someone can edge weld this thin sheet metal on their first try, they need to quit their day job immediately

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Finally warm enough to get some welding done on these buckets Joe traded to me for my 1st dollies. (V2 will be built soon) Although rare, sometimes it's nice to have a small TIG for this tiny...
