I'd love to hear how their better, more water resistant foamboard holds up. Also it seems like the Elmer foambaord from hobbylobby and others is thicker, heavier.

Picked up some sheets of 'Foam Board' or 'Foam Core' (depending who you talk to) from a dollar store.Then i hit those with some blades, slopped some hot glue around.

That's a really good idea.
Plus it would be easier to just not worry (yet) about making the big canopy, or its support columns. Spectators could see stuff better, and i wouldn't need lighting under...

If i were to build a proper gas station, how TALL would the canopy over the pumps need to be to avoid issues with Semi trailers or trucks with a wind deflector over the cab?

Go for it! I stole the idea off a guys static model diorama over on scale4x4.

The barrel was a container of "toxic slime", i think they had black and grey. The wood was split out of bamboo...
