Not inappropriate at all!! I use to travel to Florida once a year on business and our meetings would usually be at a Disney hotel. And legoland was one of the stops I would always hit.
. Would treat myself to one project every year there, it would entertain me in the hotel at nights (keep me out of trouble) by putting it together!! And I've used them to mock up projects on occasion , so for ages 2 and up,,, yes appropriate!!
