Well, as luck would have it I scored on eBay a used CROSS XC6A that 'looked' good and in the description needed the middle gear assembly replaced as they claim it's stripped.
It should arrive the end of this week... here's hoping there's no damage in transit.
I'm trying to learn as much as I can on it in the meantime but everyone seems to be very happy with theirs.
