Is the screw drive an adapted hand-drill? One of those that you push with your hand - sometimes called Archimedean Drill? I think they might be much smoother than drill bits, as they are actually designed to be used for a drive (and not cutting).

Just using a regular style masonary bit 1/4" ,been using this style for awhile have good luck with them.The Archimedean Drill would probaly work better,but mabey hard to find in my area,lol .Can't beat the price of the one's i'm using now ,around 3 to 5 bucks a bit.
