I will be modifying a euro trailer kit I got from Germany to a US spreadaxle trailer. I'm just looking at the kit frame rails and deciding if I can use them or if I will make some new ones. Looking at them now, the distance from the front end to where the landing gear mounts is 13". Is this about right? Or should I really be wanting to move them nearer to the kingpin? I can't tell by just lookng at the reference photos I have.
If you can understand my question, thanks for your help!

All of my trailers (6 of them) have the landing gear mounted about 10 in. back from the front +/- 1/2 inch.
This is pretty much standard distance to clear tandem axle tractor frames while turning. 13 in. sounds like too far back, but that depends on overall length of trailer. This trailer has landing gear 9.5 in. back, on a 19 in OAL trailer. It just barely stands by itself unhooked from a tractor without falling on it's face; ![]()
