CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck

Hey I thought I would start a thread for my CROSS RC UC6. I also own their older 8x8 truck. This UC6 is the single coolest RC I've ever owned. I can't believe just how much detail they put into everything. I have owned 2 Tamiya semi trucks in the past and this kit honestly blows Tamiya's quality away... I know its not the same scale to compare (1/12 vs 1/14) but its true!

I still need to sew a canvas cover for the bed, and make some videos of it driving around outside.

Would HIGHLY recommend anyone thinking of buying to do so, amazing kit.

Really nice truck, but it has one fault. The tie bar (correct word???) is placed before the axle, it must be placed behind the axle to have the correct geometrie (see Ackermann principle)

Never noticed that! The instructions show to set it up like this. I was kind of wondering why it was in the front while building it. I will look how easy it would be to change around...

Edit: I wonder if it really is necessary on this truck. Since all the axles are locked, the tires will be sliding in turns anyways?

That's correct, they will slide, but they will be moved in the correct direction and position to each other so that you only have the slide of the lock and not in addition a slide based on the wrong angle.

I re-arranged the front end and it was pretty easy to flip around the steering bar. I had to drill new holes to mount the steering servo because it hit into the fake engine block.

I got the steering better but its still not that much of a difference, its almost the same angle on each wheel when it turns. I think the steering arms would need to be bent inwards but I don't want to try and mess with that, probably end up breaking them.

I've build a test frame from a MB Actros with the standard steering (tie bar in front). Normally I always change the steering setup as one of the first steps, but I thought it would not be needed for a test frame.

Some days later I changed it but I measured the turn radius before. After modifying the steering the turn radius was definitely smaller.

I have one of these too, I used the same colour as well. The canvass top is dyed green, so if you simply soak it in house hold bleach it will look like this...

I'm actually working on sewing my own canvas, and if anyone is interested I will be selling them. Mine has stainless steel colored eyelets instead of brass, and is a light tan color, with dark brown rope to tie it off. I will post pictures once I get mine all done. Already made 5 prototypes and it is looking very professional.

I'm curious do you have any images of the rear end of the canvas? How does the door flap tie off?

Also where did you get that trailer in your other image! Looks insane.

I don't have a photo to hand at the moment, but basically it doesn't have a means of securing ithe flap in place. What the manufacturer has done is to incorporate a sewn in pocket that is the full width of the roll down flap, which you slide a metal rod into to add some weight to the flap. I can get you some pictures later today if you like.
The trailer (the one my tank is on) is my own design and I used some suspension units from a cross-rc trailer.
I can do a basic build thread if you want to see how it came together.

This is a Russian truck in RL, Ural (not sure the exact one) Its also in a PC game Spin Tires.
The truck comes in a billion varieties also.

Here's the photos of the back of the canvass you wanted. You'll have to excuse all the creases, it was rolled up and I've only temporarily attached it to show you the back.











It really needs stitching down each edge to prevent it from becoming frayed.

Thanks for the images of the back, I think mine came out much better!

I got a near final canvas done, only thing I need to change is the rope that ties the canvas to the truck is still a bit too thick. I came up with a really nice way to slip the back rod into the canvas, it uses eyelets for that. I also made all the tie-down points much more evenly spaced so all the rope has a nice zig-zag pattern to it. Also the rear flap has a piece of velcro so you can remove it if you want to.

I made patterns and I plan to sell a few of these, anyone interested in buying one? Price will be $75.

Yours certainly looks better at the back for sure and the removable flap is a good idea. The only thing I would say is the stiching along the side looks wonky, maybe it's just uneavean tension you have on the eyelets, but if not you need to sort that out. I know mine looks a bit rough at the back, but if you look at the photo of mine further up this post, you'll see the stiching down the side is straight.

I thought it was the tension and not your stitching. Maybe the material you're using is too stretchy, the one I have gives a little when it's pulled, but not what I'd call stretches. I think that helps to keep the stiching straighter when under tension.
