ok, tried some other files. thanks to EFICKER again on thingverse, this is the same as version 1 except for larger pieces where they attach to the flatbed, and removable gooseneck. i modified this one's gooseneck to be in 4 parts like the 1st trailer as my print bed is not big enough. i also modified the rear bed piece to have a slot so the wood slats could sit recessed a bit. on to the pics.. don't mind the bent wood, still need to trim them down, most of the pieces are at 80% fill, probably 50 hours of printing time.
time to load er up hmmm we might need a bigger boat.. lol loaded up and truckin hey look, we found a friend here's the 2 side by side version 2's neck is a bit longer which is good, i might modify the angle as the front is a bit close to the ground |

Are you loading the files from thingiverse into your cad program and changing them to print what you need? What software are you using?

pretty much, if it's a good model, i can go from thingverse to the slicer program for the printer, but to modify i use straight autocad, autocad fusion 360, tinkercad, meshmixer, whatever it takes to get the results.. lol and some are just for conversion from one file format to another.

printer is monoprice select plus (wanaho duplicator i3 clone) i started with 1.75 pla from monoprice, but i'm trying pla plus as it's supposed to be better, running axle housings now

I'll be anxiously awaitng a report of how much weight this can carry WITHOUT breaking, OR dragging the belly on the ground! I'd LOVE to make one of these for carrying the RC4WD 4200XL excavator around, &/or the Bruder D10 conversion

i doubt it would handle an all metal excavator, remember the backbone is the aluminum floor of the flatbed. i might try some i beams, but this is for light weights only i think

You might be surprised to find out that with the right supports and bracing in the right places will allow a good payload. Remember alot of our 1:1 equipment trailers are built smart and made of light materials with lots of flex. I really like what you've got going there. you should consider a flip over neck extension and jeep for one of these.

Look for architectural extrusions , I forget where but I found some h-beams of alum. Thin stuff but strong. I'll see if I can find where. A couple pieces like that would probably give you the major framework to build around and support heavy loads. I'm still amazed with the printers.

where did you get the files to print the rear fenders on the truck shown on top of the trailer . I cant find them

i forget whose fenders those are, might be PMD, they are vacuum formed styrene i think, they don't feel like 3d printed. the hood is on that truck tho, from shapeways

shorter gooseneck and weight test:
i shortened the gooseneck vertical pieces about 4mm, this picks the front end up a bit. new material is pla plus, thicker layer size and less infill. i don't like it as much as regular pla also realized that the horizontal pieces need to be longer, or that flip over tongue needs to be designed ok here's the weight test, this bucket is 14 pounds, flattened the trailer right to the ground.. here's a couple shots with starbuck's bottles, each one is 14 oz i think, still pretty close with all in the center here they are spread out, didn't help much here's why there's so much flex, there's no longitudinal stiffeners other than the outside L shape aluminum |

Mcmaster.com has a bunch of extrusions, not as many as an extrusion manufacturer, but McMaster has pricing on their website, no (or very low) min order amount, and sells to citizens via creditcard.
Much of my RC odds/ends/hardware, and mad-scientist-handyman stuff, comes from there. |

you have to make them yourself. i was thinking of making kits to sell, but it would not be profitable.
monoprice.com for the printer, thingverse.com for the files alternatively you could download the files from thingverse, modify as you see fit and upload to shapeways and they will print for you |
